Every year after I dry my outdoor harvest and show it 2 friends, they automatically think I grew it are call it homegrown know matter how good it looks. Whenever we buy Indo of the streets are Mid grade(K-Town) it has that round apperance to it with know leaves sticking out. That's what I am looking 4. I hang dry, then very delicately trim access leaves. Then its straight to the jars. I never put my buds in baggies. Am I letting it get to dry b4 putting it in tha jars? How can I get that commerical indo apperance without damaging the trichomes 2 much?

It's pretty much just down to genetics, Find a strain or a plant that has the look you want and just keep selecting the best looking buds either keep the plants in clone form or set seed on them them.
IMO it being homegrown is a badge of honor rather than a negative thing at least you know how the buds where grown weather it's organic or not and how well it was dried and cured, take it as a compliment.

maybe try trimming before you hang dry, i find it easier to get a closer trim. also, be careful calling it "homegrown" around random people, for security purposes.

mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn sry if i am not helpful in your goal but.. **** the way it looks.. how does it smell, taste, smoke, etc etc etc. screw that commercial look. if it's good shit and it does what you need and maybe a little more, what does it matter how it looks? my eyeballs don't smoke weed but i do have to smell and taste as i smoke it lol. a blind man can still get high ya know lol. if someone, ANYONE, doesn't appreciate the shit you blessed them with because it doesn't look the way THEY like it to look, then they don't need to smoke your shit. take that shit away from them and see how quick they stop bitchin about it. invite me over. i'll smoke your ugly lookin weed with you, snacks on me lol. give us some pics.

I thought mine was fluffy because i didn't give them more time to ripen. This is my first grow because I just got my med card this year. My GDP is potent but airy. My Purple urkles are still in ground so they should be a lot denser, imo.

manicure them to hell and squish them a bit while they are still sticky during the hanging process. This made my fluffy outdoor look like tight little hydro nugs.

i think this nails it, it does depend on strain. from my experiences, i have had a couple strains in my day so far and one strain that stands out is MANGO. ive had it from two totally different people andthe nuggs were tight as hell both times, almost like li' rocks, where as other strains are fluffier than others.

cannabis is cannabis whether in or out door, so qaulity should be your main concern. nutes, drying and curing are mainstay concerns throughout. and your friends. . ., well its up to you to educate, if they dont know any better. they dont sound stupid as to their opinions about your bud, just ignorant about bud period.

***and remember that stuff on the streets is either old from transport or has been sittin someplace not respective of proper cannabis storage. are buds that are stored in jars gonna be the same as buds stored in baggies after a couple weeks/months? doubt it.

Sativa-dominant plants will always have buds that are more loose and fluffier than indica nuggets.

Many people prefer the sativa high, so they're looking for fluffy bags.

As long as the bag weighs what it is supposed to, and the stuff in it gets you wrecked, who cares?

Herb being called Homegrown can be a compliment if being told by a connoisseur who understands trich degradation and wants fresh, nicely manicured, virgin nugs with trichs in tact. But for the average smoker they call nugs Homegrown as a dis or in a uncomplimentary manner. Because of airyness/fluffyness of the nugs the cure for this scenario is to BEAT UP your nugs if you are selling/giving to suspicious friends! Either Vacuum seal which will give you the commercial look or place some nugs in a plastic baggie tie it up tight and put it in your pocket and leave it for a few hours or just ball the bag up in your fist, and yes to a connoisseur this would be considered mind blowingly stupid but when dealing with the masses they like it better when things are dumbed downed for them, trust me. Next time you pull out those nugs just come out the blue with a place it came from (aka the city or out west) or make up an imaginary dealer who just has the best dank but doesnt want to meet anyone else, lol they will not think of the buds as homegrown if it doesnt look homegrown. Look Commercial Nugs are the same thing just dialed in Commercial is- vacuum sealed buds that start coagulating over time from being compressed-moved- shipped- from there to here and here to there

i had some Super Ice (80/20 indica) stretch out and fluffify because of a light leak into the bloom room (word copywright Khaleel 2007). you can see the conish shape of the plant in the middle and on the right colas especially, but it was the same on all the little nugs too. it was all stretched out and stringy at the top, even had long helicopter-looking leaves coming out the top of the bud.

luckily it only affected a few at the edge of the room. here's a chrystal from the same room that was tucked safely in the corner

also, i may be wrong but doesn't the light set-up determine bud density, after genetics... hps would be densest with floro's and cfl's a bit fluffier, then how close the lights are to the plants during flowering, and overall wattage/spectrum... i'm no expert but that was my understanding from reading and from my experience, brief though it may be lol :gaga:

ok, that made me laugh my ass off. Reminded me of Grandma's Boy when they roll that huge joint and the one guy says, "We'll go to the loony joint together."

I will roll fluffy er stuff in a grocery bag (not a ziploc or thick plastic bag cause there to restrictive) let it sit for a couple of hours then put it in the jar.

buds get chunkier as they dry here bigbud on the plant looks chunky then looks alittle fluffy in first weeks of the dry but goes rock solid when all moisture is leached out. Am also a fan of a heap of PK from mid flower slowly increasing until week 7 then mild feeds until harvest. Indoor / outside i feed the same a good nute/ root booster and PK in coco or a good soil fed atleast once aday

bigbud days 56/63

Sensi skunk

wet skunk

dried bigbud

If your bud is fluffy it could be because of the genetics or the conditions of your grow room. I'm not sure what else could cause your buds to be fluffy other than lack of plant food but like I said one thing I often hear and even believe experience for my self are temps. It plays a part. During the summer my temps were 90-100 (still need to figure out a way to bring that down this summer), I had buds that were very fluffy and airy. But in winter my temps in grow room are below 70 when lights are off and never above 85 when lights are on and also I believe I have better genetics this round and now I have nice dense nugs. But if you want to achieve the commercial bud look you can try squeezing nugs together while they are in the process of drying and it will have that compressed look or w/e.
