My backyard porch light problem..

I have a 250w halogen with a motion sensor for a porch light in my backyard. Now, for my garden to get the most sun in the summertime, i have to position it no more than 15 ft from this light, which is, to say the least, inconvenient during flowering time. when that time comes, i completely turn it off so its not a problem..

heres my question, can it work as a light supplement in the early spring?

Its only 4000 lumens, and I already know that halogens dont provide the right spectrum for growth, but would it be enough to keep them awake for the couple of hours needed to supplement light?

depends on the size of your garden but i wouldn't trust it being that far away. We use either t5s or 2 tube 4' florescent shop lights for our supplemental lighting. We stagger them in our greenhouse with 3' spacing in between them. 1 small light that far away might confuse them imo.

It might work for say keeping your seedlings or clones from flowering early. My buddy keeps his outdoor clones out on his porch and turns his porch light on a dusk with no problems. Plants dont need much light to stay in veg from what I hear. He's not trying to supplement a whole garden in big pots though just say a group of clones in 1 to 5 gal pots then we take clones out to final transplanting spot when timing is right of course.
