My 1000watt multi strain grow

This will be my sixth grow, and second under my 1000 watt HPS.
9X9 room, mylar walled, plastic sheeting sealed floor.
Well ventilated with an open vent in floor with a fan drawing in cool air, and I'm home during lights on to vent it when needed.

What I'm running ~
Cindy's Bleu cheese Reg
Cannatonic Fem
Tahoe OG Fem
Master Kush Fem
Kush #4 Fem
20 in total, I'll cull the weak males, and move the strongest to another room to collect pollen, I plan on making crosses of all.

They'll be in 20oz of Happy frog until day 21, then transplanted to 2 gallons of a Ocean forest, Happy frog mix, then vegged several more days before going 12/12 under the 1000 watt HPS.
The lighting they're receiving for veg is a 4 bulb T8 over head flanked by a 100 watt T5, and a 150 watt HPS.

The previous 1000 watt grow I ran all plants untopped, only reason being I wanted to see some lovely 5 footers in my grow since before I was stuck with closet growing.

I've run through many techniques while closet growing, LST, cropping, untopped.
I'm looking for a few suggestions, I can see I have some sativa dominate plants with the Cindy's bleu cheese strain, and of course there's plenty of indicas with some of the kush strains.
What would be my best bet for sogging all of these whilst trying to maintain an even canopy?
Or might I have to sort these in flower in possibly a U shape, with the taller phenos along the periphery?

As of now they're at day 17 since sprouting, varying from third to fifth node in growth.

My experience in topping has been at the beginning of 12/12 and they've bushed out quite well topped many nodes up.
I've tried the technique of topping for four main colas before, but this seems a better idea for sativas, indicas remained squat and yielded the same as untopped sisters.

Day 12 of flower, females should show any day now, so far 5 males have sexed and are going strong.

A couple weeks ago I decided I'd go back to my method of removing the bottom of their 20 ounce cups and transplant those to the new containers.
The strongest plants were topped above the second node, weaker plants were let veg a few days longer before topping higher up.

The crossing project I decided on will be a thin leaf male crossed with the best sat dominate females, and the indy dom with the best looking kush plants.
It should be fun to grow them out next round, maybe bring the bring the cindy and purple thai out of the cindy strain by crossing it with a sat dom sister pheno, and add some new scents and flavors to my various kushes with the fat leave male.

I'll be taking these to a full ten weeks, unless the plants tell me earlier.

Before a second round of male thinning

Two male phenos chosen to collect pollen from, strongest structured thin and fat leaf

A siamese Master Kush in the mix, what a stem

Ive always wanted to run a lot of seeds at once... too risky for me, and not enough room I feel..

good luck to ya! by the way whats the difference between a T8 and T5?

I'm legal so all good. :)

T8s have a larger bulb width than T5s.
I was under the impression that they were also limited to low wattage bulbs after a home depot employee mentioned it, but after looking up bulbs apparently there are some available up to 70 watts each.

Thank you, G.O.T.!

Nice babies if you top seedlings around fourth node let them veg for
a bit then flower them out Uncle Toms method will end up with some big ass buds minimal larf to trim, works well with seed plants never tried it with clones..Tagging along. Bud

I had been following along with someone named Uncle Ben and his topping technique from another forum, which was topping above either the first for second node for even hormone distribution which makes for true multiple mains colas.
My strongest plants were topped like that, the weaker looking 5 or 6 plants were topped above the fourth.

My mutant Master Kush has grown it's tops out enough where I could pull them all apart this morning, It managed to top itself, and has leaves coming ever which was from around it's two tops. Should be fun to watch. :D

I'll have a new digital cam soon, so expect macros and nicer photos, these are just the cameraphone.

Thanks for tagging along, Buddler.

I want to know if my plan of action for my breeding males is sound.
I plan on keeping them in the flowering room until about day 18 of flower, then I'm going to cut off their main colas and put them in a glass of water in another area and wait for them to release.
Collect the pollen in small paper envelopes for it to dry, then pour it into vials until I decide to pollinate my chosen ladies?

And as for when I do pollinate the females, even though I have spare HPS lamps I don't have any where else to flower them, what if I were to take them out the grow before lights off, pollinate my selected side branches and toss them in a closet for the night.
Could I the next morning before returning them to the grow, spray the branch down with water to get any loose pollen for spreading to the other plants?

I'm not to fussed about a few seeds in the other plants, as I and my patients don't mind, I just don't want a ton of seeds in the other females.

Excuse me for being nervious about working with males the first time. :D

Sounds like a plan just pollinate some lowers branches spritz off excess with water then back in room.. I have a separate tent for collecting pollen keeping males ,you could keep them under cfls if you want to save hydro. I store pollen in freezer stays viable longer.Bud

Thanks, Buddler, A tent for males was on my list but I couldn't afford it this round, next grow though.

Tomorrow I pick up my new camera, so no more of these eye straining photos.
Here's a few shots of day 26/27 of flower.

They're taking up 3.5x3.5 in the top photos and 4x4 in the others, does it make more sense to open the canopy up as long as I keep them in the light footprint?

It seems like I could run 2k + watts in this room next grow, I'll have to find the patience to let them veg a couple months so I could fill the room and not go over my plant count.

i'd open it up more and de-larf the lower area.

you could throw 4K in there if you can keep the temps in control.

A few of the plants topped higher up do have a couple weak branches on the lowest nodes.
I cut a few off today, but also had in mind it was my 8/9 weeks strains that had weak branches, I could always give those larfy lowers another two weeks while the Tahoes finish up. Hmmm.
Gonna open them up more.

Watering with these cheapy pots is new to me, I've used airpots from the get go, and was used to them drying out quickly. I went all cheap 2 gals some uniformity, over a crazy mix of airpots sizes I have.

That has me daydreaming, I could run 4k for sure if I installed some proper ventilation.
