DUDE.......ya just set the guy up for a heart attack , told him " electricity ain't cheap out there" and then told him to start with eight lights..........he'll have a coronary when he opens the first bill.
A lot of folks have almost NO idea how ridiculous the power costs are out here , tiered rate structure along with peak/off peak differentials , seasonal differentials and they keep jacking it up ten or fifteen percent a year.

My advice: Come to California and get your grow on. Not having money isn't a good sign (i.e., lack of preparation), but you won't starve out here and you already have a job, so...

You are SOO right..I only run 3200 watts (now I live in Santa Cruz) and my power ALONE (hear this ??? alone) is over $800+ per month!
Ehh, sorry to burst ur bubble but you make crap selling to collectives! in my area about 2500 for a pound of TOP SHELF DANK OG! unless you can produce indoor quality, outside probably better to just grow for ur self. everybodys growing now, anybody notice # of hydro shops blowing up? I had stuff at local collective for a minute but truthfully i could make more vending clones.
sounds like a failure waiting to happen...you dont have enogh capitol to fall back on in case of disaster, which WILL happen its just part of the growing learning curve. your first crops will get PM, mites, hermies, bad genetics, you name it.....
unless you are an experienced indoor grower with harvests under your belt and 20k saved up you are going to have a pretty rough time here in california......

I'd do the opposite, because you would have to be stoned as fuck to think about trying to move to California and compete in the MMJ market as it stands right now...
No money, no job...stay your ass there and make money, then move out here. Do all the research about where you want to move and if you think you are going to open up shop and make money in this market, just stay asleep and dreaming because the reality will suck. 
No craigslist, thats asking to get caught up! Why not just grow for yourself? I got in to that $$$ shit for a minute it wasn't all that rewarding in the end, too much drama and bs and not a huge payout! I down shifted, and slowed my shit way down! Now I grow just for me and to share with my good friends and I couldn't be happier.
