moving into apartment

Hey guys.. i am moving into an apartment in a couple months and would like to continue doing a small grow. Does anyone know how the utilities work? Since it is all inclusive would 400 watts be too much? Or is the electricity even traceable to specific apartments?

Thanks for the read!!

have a nice day

Each apartment has it's own meter. All anyone knows about how much electricity you use is your end of the month usage. They have no idea on when you use more or less during the day or light cycles. All the meter man knows when he or she reads your meter is how many Kilowatt hours you used. As long as you pay your bill you should be fine. No different than being in a house. Same type of meter and billing. Also, people have saltwater aquariums that use HIDs and they have no problems.

Hope this helps

Peace!

Are old complex used to run 4 units per meter. Each unit had a seperate cirtcuit breaker. We popped in a few 30a circuits and ran 4x1000s w. out a single problem.

I honestly would not reccomend it, but we made it work.

My favorite advantage in apartment growing, is that your neighbor usually DO NOT want to meet you and breaking into an apartment is much more difficult than breaking into a house (espically if you are on a high rise building)

If your resident manager asks about energy consumption, have an viable excuse ready (i.e. you produce music, manage online servers, etc...)

good luck and happy harvests

Years ago I lived in one, 400 watts is nothing to worry about think more about odor and ballast noise more than anything odor.

=) thanks for the help. much appreciated to all of you. As it happens music production is a another hobby of mine. .. i guess i'll have to balance the two. 10 ft ganj.. What do you mean you popped in a few 30 (amp?) circuits? Sorry, i am young and stupid when it comes to electricity.

Your kidding. A 400 watt light is nothing. Change all of the incandescents in your apartment to fluoros and you might save as much. And since it's winter time, your average heater run around 1200 watss. Run a nice filter and vent the heat into your apartment if it's cold.

Chosen is write W = I X V (watts = Amps X Volts) So If you have 400watts you would divide that buy 115V.. SO if I do some simple algibra we can rearang the formula to
W / V = I (Watts / Volts = Amps) 400/115 would be 3.48 Amps. My gaming computer draws way more Amps than that and my plasma TV. Just look at the data plate on the back of your TV to see how many amps it draws. Or your sound equpment. Just to put thing into prospective. You have nothing to be worried about but SMELL, do you ya smell what the rock is KOOOOKEN!!!!!

Peace!

I agree that 1 400W is so minimal it wont be noticed

You should check out the legal section though. There was a guy there that had power included but he had a nazi for a landlord that wanted to do a full apartment inspection due to the high electric bill. Dude already had extra stuff like big TV, space heaters, etc plus his grow.

Here is the thread
