Mounting a Dayton Fan

I ordered a Dayton 265 CFM blower from mdhydro.com but the problem is, i'm not sure how to mount it. I've seen bloweres before that had like hooks built into it so you could hang it but i'm not sure how to do it.

My growbox is a 3x3x6 wood frame with panda film on the walls, so its not like the wlls would be to sterdy for me to mount it. I'll try to take a picture later today of the unit, but i'm just nto sure how to mount the sucker.

Hey Kreat - Did you use 2 x 4's to build your box? If so, you could some 2 x 4 blocks horizontally between two 2 x 4 studs to screw to. If you notice, on the intake side of the Dayton blower, there are pre-drilled screw holes. Just place the blocks close enough together so that you can screw (from the outside-in) into the blower. You can mark the holes on the wood and pre-drill your holes for the screws. Be careful not to use too long of a screw so that it won't affect the squirrel cage inside. Mounting the Dayton on the inside of your box you will be PULLING air into your cabinet as an intake for fresh air. Mounting it on the outside of the box, you will be pulling air OUT of your box.

I hope this hasn't confused you too much. If you have any specific questions, just PM me. I had a Dayton 265 mounted very similar to this and I used it as an intake for fresh air but, as I said before, you can mount it on the outside to pull air out as well. Hope this helps.

On the question of hanging it from bungie cords from the ceiling, you may have to drill holes in the casing of the blower to hook the bungies through and just put hooks in the ceiling to hang to bungies from.

I found their easier to mount once they have a couple of drinks in them.

Here are some pics of my fan that I have. I dont see anyplace where IU could screw in anything to the unit. I'm sure I can make a mounting device just trying to figure out if theres a way for me to do it without drilling into the unit.

Yes it is a 2x4 frame, Is it better to use it as an exaust by pulling it out? or pushing it out? I thought pushing it might be a little better since it could cut out some of the noise in the unit, but i'm not 100% sure. I think i'm going to be making a carbon filter for it as well, so maybe I shoudl think about how i'm gonna hook that up as well to figre it out.

They can make quite a buzz. After time any squirrel cage type fan will start to get louder.
After two years my 265 has gotten significantly louder.

An elicent inline fan is the way to go if your seeking a quite fan.

IMHO, they're pretty loud...an inline fan is much quieter, or better yet, check out Panasonics line of Whisper Bathroom fans-They are VERY quiet.

When I Used to use Daytons I Would Use the Bungie method.
See those four holes around the output vent get a 4in. adaptor plate for that.
Secure that plate with provided nuts & bolts (only) on 2 opposite corners.
Seal the rest of the edge with metal duct tape... Mount a Steel hook to the ceiling of your box and put the hook from each end of the bungie into the 2 holes that are still open on the 2 coners of that adaptor and voila..... a dayton with a rubber carring handel that you can slip over that hook you mounted on the ceiling.... I tryed other ways but found that this method was best because you could adjust the way it hangs for proppa balance..
And of course the rubber absorbs some of the noise created by vibration compared to a static installiation....

I now use Elicent Centrifugial fans in all my O.P.'s Way more quiet... Efficent
And with the extra Rheostat speed control installed its as quiet as u want it..

Although my 1200 cfm 12in. Still sounds like a jet engine when on full But what do u expect....It's 1198 Cfm.

If you got the loot Get the Elicents....

Peace......TECH
