alright everyone. i need to cut some electric because i had to put a bulb over this special Super lemon haze X Sour Bubble clone that a buddy gave to me. by the way thanks Worm. alright so the question is, do light rails work? and if they do, could i supplement my 400w MH & 600w MH for one 1000W MH? i mean i know the spectrum and lumens and all that good stuff but will the light rail actually be able to cover that type of space and get light to all parts of my ladys?? let me know of the best light rail brand and any tips for me. thanks everyone

My friend picked u one last month. We spent about a hour attaching it to the ceiling and then a few hours setting up the fans, and other equipment. He is running 2x600w, room temps are low and the plants look great. The room is 10x12'

If light rails were able to take the place of extra lamps, don't you think you'd find a lot of warehouse grows with 10k lights on light rails instead of 20k lights? I mean, just think of the money saved on re-lamping and electric usage alone. If light rails could do magic everybody would use them or they'd cost $1000 a piece or both.

light rails are best used (IMHO) to help light reach parts of the plants (within your normal canopy limts) that would otherwise be shaded.

For example, if you had a 600w bulb over a 12 sq. ft. area (approximately 3.5ftx3.5ft) I think you would probably see a benefit to having a light rail move back and forth within the 12 sq. ft. instead of having the bulb be stationary over the center of the 12 sq. ft. Parts of the plants that would otherwise be shaded would get direct light because of the lamp's movement, so you'd probably get less popcorn and more uniform growth than you would with the stationary bulb. But if you tried to have one 600w on a mover over a 24 sq. ft. area I expect you would have a ton of extra popcorn and larf and not much of an increase in your harvest weight of quality buds.

The other thing the mover might be good for is allowing your plants to be closer to the bulb, since it would be constantly moving, instead of sitting still in one spot.

I agree with Anti, when a light mover is used to move the light within its usable footprint, the effects are positive. When used to try to stretch the reach of, or to replace a bulb, your diluting the overall light to all the plants and they all suffer.

I'm looking into getting a rail to move my 4 hoods 16" in each direction. I wonder if I can do it with one motor.

You can if you get this one. Far superior to Light Rail IMO and cheaper. Gotta love the variable timer.

I believe he's asking about replacing one 1000 watt light with a 400w AND a 600 on a mover.

I'd hang them all!! But if you're trying to keep it at 1000 w just hang the 1 light on a mover. the light rail 3.5 works great. I know you can get it on the web for under 200 dollars.

They do grow great under a light mover.

look on ebay for light rails....good prices..most ship free.....the light movers work good in areas 10x12 or smaller for the average indoor grow....or get more for a lager grow..you can get a remote arm to move 2 lights also.....you can get them with different RPM motors also for the travel speed......it makes a four light area into a 2 light area....I love them...its nice if you get 2 complete movers an have the lights travel in oppasit directions....so you have a larger light foot print over all
