Mother's Finest from Serious Seeds

Hi, all. This strain has been around a while from Serious Seeds. It's a haze-hybrid of several parents, and though the strain is not stable, all the phenos are good, up, racy - but some take longer than others to flower.

I haven't noticed any reports on it here, though there was a huge and informative thread about it on overgrow.com. But that's all lost, as we know, so for those who haven't had the chance to hear about it, I offer this little report.

The phenotype I selected for a mom takes about 12 weeks to flower. It's very photogenic, potent, motivational - but not nearly as edgy as a pure haze or even something like Jack Herer. It's easy to grow, and since I grow a lot of sativa dominant stuff, the flowering time seems quite normal to me. It doesn't need much veg time at all; I veg for 2 weeks after the rooted clone is planted. It jumps up in height immediately on flowering, and then fills in slowly.

In terms of appearance, my Mother's Finest looks like the twin sister of my Kali Mist mom (and my KM is [unfortunately] the post-2000 version that was toned done by crossing with an indica (or whatever - I forget). Anyway, here are several pics of it in early stages of flowering, side by side with Kali Mist. If the pots were not labeled, I would have a rough time telling them apart. The high is different, and the taste is subtley different though. I'm a HUGE fan of both.

Anyway, let me get straight to the details:

TASTE: "hazy" - I know, you need a point of reference, and that typical "haze" taste is elusive and hard to describe: hints of sandalwood, vanilla, black pepper...

but for me, it tastes like bitter white chocolate with a pepper after taste - not sweet chocolate.... anyway... tastes good... not my favorite taste in the range of herbal tastes, but Mother's Finest has a taste that is gentle and soothing... nothing to complain about. It has a light, not a heavy smell during flowering.

THE HIGH: It comes on strong. If you've smoked Kali Mist, then I can tell you that this is very much like that, except, surprisingly, it has a bit more of a body component than even my toned down KM has... In other words, it has a slight muscle relaxation quality that is quite nice. But don't be deceived. This is get up and go smoke. The high is not nearly as racy as I wish it were, but then my tolerance for sativas is higher than most people... It is clear headed, inspires creative thinking, seeing things from a new perspective.

It comes on fast and strong; the high is long lasting - several hours... But, again, I am a chronic smoker, predominantly of sativa-dominant type things, and I smoke alot of it... so keep that in mind. For most people, a little bit of this goes a long way. :woohoo:

Now for some more pics. They pretty much some it up about my feelings about this pot:

Highly recommended!

Potency 8/10; beautiful to grow and fun to watch.

I have a new one just going into flower, even now. Hope this has been informative for those of you who haven't already got the scoop on Mother's Finest.

Now for some more pics. I've included several that were taken with a microscope camera, and the others with a regular digital cam.

Enjoy!

An inspiring report. Potency 8 out of 10? Tell us what you think is lacking in potency, or rather how you set your standards in regards to potency.
I have only smoked Mother's Finest once, and in comparision to other haze hybrids such as Jack Herer or S.A.G.E I would say MF is right up there or not far behind. A lot of growers hesitate to give 10/10 because that would indicate an unobtainable 'perfect' high, but I don't see it that way. A 10/10 would be about as potent as weed can get, and beyond that in potency will be 'over the top', more comparable to hash or oil. I would personally give MF somewhere between 9 and 10, but that's just me. As you said, everybody reacts differently to cannabinoids.

Thanks, ya'll, for your kind remarks.

That's a good question about potency, Rosy Cheeks.

It's not false modesty, though, that keeps me from rating MF as a 10. We've all smoked a 10, ie., that is, we all remember smoking something that was better than everything else. For me, on the Indica side of things, that "10" is definitely Deep Chunk, and on the sativa side of things its a strain called Krush (which I've smoked but not grown). Wow - no question a 10. But MF isn't that, although it is very, very strong pot.

Also, I compared it to Kali Mist, which I also love. There's a great thread about KM here already - wonderful herb. My Kali Mist is slightly more potent than MF - maybe because it doesn't have as much body component that distracts from the head high, if that makes sense?

But I've asked myself, if I could only have one of those two, it would be a hard call, but I would choose Kali Mist.

So, I guess I would actually rate the potency of MF as 8, of KM 9, and Krush as 10.

(I'm very, very lucky to be growing an F6 cross of Krush x Deep Chunk; it's in the middle of flowering right now.)

Having said all that, I would also just add, that none of my friends that I share herb with smoke nearly as much as I do, and they usually find my stuff scary, even too strong - but this is all very subjective, and they may just be wimps. :joint:

Thanks for stopping by, everyone.

No, that makes sense. I grew Rezdog's Sour Diesel last year and it was the same thing. The occasional smokers don't appreciate it at all, too strong, too racy, too panicky. Blockhead was the same thing. No point in growing it apart for myself and true afficiandos. I'm also a Kali Mist fan and grower, but KM rarely leave my personal stashbox.

To expand on my prev. one line'r

To expand on my prev. one line'r

The other night i placed an abstract one line'r in regards to the typo, haveing smoked some rather powerful stuff myself it was hard to get the few words out that i did... but couldn't log off with out posting (what was ment as) a complament to the apparent quality grower Trich watcher. the pics he posted looked as well as the "in house mother room" pic used in HT the year MF won (correct me if my memeries fail me) the Sativa cup i belive. Trich watcher nice job, very happy looking plants. and a nice long awaited non-seedshop smoke report on a strain i've had interest in. Thanks and keep up the good work. Grow for all the right reasons, GF

There is a good article about Serious in a recent issue of High Times. The seed company only maintains like 5-10 top quality strains and focuses on maintaining a consistent vigour among those. HT did an unbiased grow and test of all of their classic strains (AK47 etc.) and all came out great. I grew Serious AK and it was incredible.

Thanks for such a high complement, Gentleman farmer.

I agree, also, unknownone, you can't go wrong with Serious seeds. I grew AK47 myself along time ago and loved it too. In fact, I wish I had a mother for it, but I grew it before I got smart and started saving mothers of the winners I come across. Live and learn.

Appreciate that fine report. I grew out MF and your findings are dead on. It's a fine strain but it just flowers too long for me. Thanks!
