mother plants, how big are yours?

Could I get away with a couple bonsai mother plants to produce cuttings for a 1k room? thinking ill probably run like 12 plants at a time. Just trying to be wise with my space because I might add lights/ keeper mother plants in the future and raise plant count so ill need floor space for more mother plants. Should I just grow my mother plants out regularly and forget about bonsai??lol I've done bonsai to mother plants before to be used for cuttings for outdoor grows and it worked decent..saved alot of space that I didnt have. Thing is now I do have a little more space so idk if its even worth the hassle for the small reward. Any advise appreciated!

I've got three bagseed moms I've had for about 2 years in one gallon pots. For my needs (nine clones every 90 days or so) I am throwing away cuttings just to keep them manageable. Having read the thread on Bonsai Moms, I think that would be the way to go and is what I'm going to do on the three moms I'm in the process of growing from my first "real strain" purchased seeds.

Yeah Im in the same boat as you ran some bag seed but this is my first pro seed purchase too. Good luck bro thanks for the response

My mum plants in 16oz cups, coco hempy.

I keep two males and up to six females in a
small veg box under 72W PL L's.

I take more cuts every few weeks than I can possibly use,
and toss the ones I don't need.

With extra space you can keep multiples of each mum
for maximum number of cuts and safe keeping genetics too.

Good thread

no reason to keep males unless you really plan on breeding.. and moms.. I start with new clone every run.. with no problems.. moms take up too much space when you have 20 diff kinds

The way that you both do it seems proper and I've done it both ways with great results. I guess once you have good technique it could potentially be situational AND preference based.
@droppedcat I havent went that small on pots for mothers though thats impressive to say the least. props bro. That coco lets you get away with a little bit smaller pot size too right? Are you hand watering those girls/boy? seems like they'd go dry quite a bit without proper irrigation haha.

No mothers for me.
When a plant gets about two or three feet it is cloned and flowered, or the original is dumped as soon as clone roots.
For me it is a numbers thing more than a space thing, but keeping over twenty mothers would get too big pretty quick.

I hand water every other day, in flower every day.
With the low amount of watts the plants grow slow and
uptake is less than a grow with say, 600W.

24 plants total between veg and flower.

If the coco gets dry I have a couple days of reduced EC
feeds to get them back to normal. Typical EC is 0.8.

My Zamaldelica and thunk mum plants grow the fastest,
but i only flower a couple cuttings of them per season.

The wide leaf gear is what I've been crossing lately,
and they grow much slower.

All my keeper mums and dads are maintained as cuttings of cuttings,
none of the rootstock is older than 4 or 5 months, keeps the genetics
from failing.

If I start growing for yield I would ditch the mums and dads and
flower cutting to cutting, natch.

That's funny^^

How big are the containers, and what medium, I wonder

Guessing you have at least three 4x8 areas, figuring one
plant per square foot.

That's a lot of watts, are you mono crop, or multi strain

I have 5 mothers under 1 600w that I can brighten to 1000 if I want. Each 600 has 5 mothers under it. It doesn't cost much, and I just took 300 clones all tops due to training bending and pruning. Super cropping helps too. Best thing is it has only been a week and I can take 150 more if I want.

Once you train em and top em while they are growing up you can get alot of cuts from one light. These are stretchy too, 3 different og kush, a sour d., og x ww. The only one that doesn't stretch much is cherry pie. It gets over grown by animal if I let it.

I'm flowering out my big bad momma now, but my new mom is being prepared, for a new experiment for me that I have been wanting to test. Mwahahaha!

I want to start collecting more strains than the one i've been running, but don't have the room, so I will graft at least a 5 if not 10 strain mother. That is my grower's goal for 2017 :)
