Mother plant problem

I posted this in the infirmary as well but the more help the better.

I have no idea what happened to her. She was a full bush about a week ago. She was given to me to start my first grow about 3 months ago. Her conditions haven’t changed since I got her and she flourished for the last 3 months. From what I was told she is about 1 yr and a half old. She has been on a teaspoon of FF Big Grow about every other watering and she requires water about every other day. Temp conditions are consistently around 78 deg fer she has good airflow and she at least gets lightly sprayed with water daily. What would cause such damage to ½ of a plant? If you look close the stem at the base has 2 sections one that goes to the damaged side and the other to the side that is all green. What can be done to save her?

Looks like a root problem to me. Each branch has its own root, so half of your soil has problems and the other half has not been hit yet. That pot is definitely too small for that big of a plant. Looks like its time to retire that mother and move on with the new.

Would repotting it Help at all? I have a 5 gallon I can put her into. I dont know if i am ready to admit that its time for retirment . If thats the case I should take what clippings I can while I can.

I'd concentrate on rooting some clones and starting over if only for insurance.

pull that thing out of the pot and with a sharp knife amputate the dead part of the plant and its corresponding roots, transplant the remaining portion of the plant into a fresh pot of soil and lightly water w/hygrozyme. Take at least half a dozen clones off the good side in case the rest of the plant dies. When your done with that...you might want to order some seeds.

Hey there guys.... thanks........... WOW that sucks I was afraid that was the answer. I heard the similar response in the Infirmary forum as well. It is what it is I guess

It is a small pot, that was what it was given to me in and I didn’t know better to get it into a bigger pot.

I had Plans on cloning her tomorrow and I went out and got a 5-gallon to put her into tomorrow. She if the MJ gods can make it happen.

I have 2 Other Moms that will be cloned tomorrow I started them 2 months ago just for that INSURANCE FACTOR

I guess if you don’t make mistakes you don’t learn.

This is a process I am not familiar with. I understand amputate the dead portion but how do I tell which are the corresponding roots? Or will that be obvious once I get into the process? I am either getting seeds or I may be able to cop some clones from another fellow grower here by me. Either way I started 2 other Moms 2 months ago for this exact reason.
What is the purpose of the Hygrozyme and what usage sched and term? To makes sure I understand I should chop sick part and roots, Transplant and water w/hygrozyme and take clones. This should all be done together right? Would taking clones be too stressful?

Looks like you have a couple backup clone mothers in case of emergency so this isn't totally necessary but is good experience. First, pull some clones and then prune the plant way back (8-12" tall) Once the plant is out of the pot, cut all dead plant mater and roots away leaving a large grapefruit sized root ball hanging from the still viable stem, transplant and water w/hygrozyme. I suggest hygrozyme because not only does it help the plant more effectively uptake nutes but it also breaks down dead roots... It's good to see what this amazing plant of ours can really do

We all remember what she looked like before. The only part of the process that I got conflicting data from here and the infirmary was to clone her during the transplant. I made the executive decision to take the clones. If she isn’t going to make it then I have 10 other opportunities to keep my “mystery strain in my possession. So I took these instructions and ran with them.

1. Clone (the ones in the round peet cups are from her and the square ones ore from the other 2 Moms)





2. Remove dead matter and reduce roots to grape fruit size taking from the bad side


3. Repot into larger pot. The 2 other are my other moms and they are getting new pots in a day or 2





All I can do is wait. I am assuming if she is going to go downhill she will do it fast. If anything this was a great learning experience (even more so if it works). Like ya said Albert said I hope she amazes me.

So did I do it right? Is she the size she should be? Any further advice?

good save, did the right thing there using the lowest/ healthy growth for clones asap. While going to work on saving the 18month old mum she must have had a rough week roots could be alot better in a large 10litre pot of coco every 6/9 months grow up a new mum.

I feed my mums in a simular way single part grow fert with rhizotonic canna zym to keep roots healthy being the biggest issue with mums after a longer veg period.. vote1 for new bonzi mums, tip/ lst/ scrog the two smaller plants so you can get more plants in that space be they more than 1 of same strain or some new flavors..

My goodness! What happend to that plant?
Take safty precaution and keep those clones away from your growing equipment. I'd put them some where completly diffrent.

Thank you for the advice. That is my next step read up and teach myself how to bonsai and how to scrog. I am only 4 month into my 1st grow and I wasn’t at all familiar with the term scrog till started reading in these forums. So now its time to learn. If you know of a resource that I could read up on that would be great.

It was your reply with detail instructions that got me through this one. Kudos to you sir... …. Keep an eye on me I may need help from time to time.

One question I do have is when should she be fed after this whole process? Do the roots need time to recover before the receive nutes?

BTW when I went into the room tonight to check on things she looks the same, as last night so no new is good news in my book.

As to what happened to my plant….. I assume it was my pot size but it was not “what happed” as to how to I fix it….. And it looks like things are on the up and up.

Well almost 3 weeks later and I had to get on and let you all know that the advice I received did the trick. As I expected My mother is doing superb

So here she is. I am so glade that I didn’t just give up on her. The pic isn’t the best..... but what an improvement.



Also I am so glad that I opted to take clones, out of the 21 I took from her and 2 other plants I ended up with 19 strong ones. Here is a quick pic
