Mother gettin sick after cutting.

Hey guys been useing mothers and thus clones for about a year now, and when i cut alot from a mother , it sometimes have a bad reaction to it, leaves becoming a rusty colour all around the edge of the leaves, and becoming very light green coolor, this hapens so fast, with the reaction and the recovery ,usualy done within 4-5 days. I usualy end up with some dead leafs . that i just snap of since they die within 2 days.

But this time one have had problem, and the strange thing is that it was the strongest looking one on cutting day, more branches , bigger and tighter leafs and so on.

I have 2 plants in one big container, 70 liters, they have shared it for about 3 weeks. Before they had each 12 lit, but they loved the transplant, and within a week they had doubled thier sprouts.

So 13 days ago i cut the first one, 70 ones, it got sick and recoverd within 5 days,

then 9 days ago i cut the other one same thing 70 ones , but it is still looking sick. I put them in bloom 2 days later, that is 7 days ago. and last night it looked the same, have anyone had this prob before, the part about it not healing it self ?

i also have a third whom i cut 9 days ago also, and that one is looking perfect.

The mothers are

Widow Fem
2 months of veg/motherhood, under 1200 W MH.

1 week bloom 1200 W HPS

GH Bottle formula, with diamond nectar at a rate of 6ml/gal

Prob: rusty around the efges of the leafs, all fan leavs, some top leaves.
Very light green colour, been so for 7 days, with no sign of recovery.

Right off the bat I have no clue. BUT, a couple questions come to mind:

1# You're using a clean knife/tool to cut with?

2# Are you disturbing the roots by moving the plant around while you cut?

3# What surface are you putting the pot on while you take the cuttings?


I would turn a cutting into a new mum and see if it had the same problems.

Mg, some micro nutrients before taking cuttings! I know, I get over complicated with the fancy ingredients that help of not to much! I'm the organic grower that usually over waters and has some micro herd burns! Gave them a shower! Seems they will stabilize in their knew pots that arranged their thick stuff on top!

What do you mean by 70 ones? what are you feeding for veg? kind of really know what your doing before anyone can fix it. pics help.

if you mean 70 cuts per mom, mabey your cutting to much and taxing her ass. ive had moms in med sized pots grow lush and then have probs after cuts, and i attributed my prob to being haveing such a large root mass supporting such minimal growth i seemed to have some fucked up shit happen the soil. couldent do anything but actually transplant down a pot size and not cut her so hard. sounds like you need more than one mom of each.

You know, I have one strain - Zoidfuel x Cherryfuel - which does exactly what he describes. It looks all but dead sometimes, but she comes back. Always lose some leaves to necrosis, though.

In my case, at least, it's got nothing to do with technique. I've tried alcohol-lamp sterilized xacto to eliminate that variable. It's just a quirk of that plant. Maybe just genetics?

Some pictures would definitely help. I have run into similar problems in the past. How big are they? Are they bonsai'd?

I don't like to keep mothers in the same pot, as different strains, different phenotypes, and even different schedules can effect their interaction below the soil. However I find it okay to use multiple clones of the same strain while in flower as long as they are given similar schedules throughout their life.

For example, an overlooked phenomena I may have never found without this seed of wisdom(some may call a mistake, but my glass is still half full) I once had 4 identical OG kush clones planted linearly in a window sill pot only to notice my floors weren't level. The one at the indistinguishable top had grown it's roots below the others at the bottom of the pot to the other end, 3 feet from it's stock, and halted nearly all growth on the other three while basking in its own glorious vigorous explosions. Imagine three 5 inch rootballs next to one with a 3 foot tap root.

My best advice is to post a pic or two. If I can't help you, I know there are many people here I would call gurus who have those they call gurus and I am sure would be glad to help you.

i pour a little shot glass with rubbing alcohol and sit the blade in the alcohol inbetween cuttings, would it be better to uses hydrogen peroxide?

and try not to stir up to much dust while the wounds are healing

maybe its time for a root pruning?

If you take 70 cuttings off a plant it will take time to recover if theres something not quite right it is more likely to show while the plant is stressed. Some strains are hardier and will recover faster than others.

It recovered, so good enough. Same pot is an issue i gathered. i did take 70 clones each, but the plant was under 600 W each, for 2 months so they where big enough i think.

try to keep the number of cuts the plant has to heal to a minimum too
