More Theory

So when I'm medicating, I find myself thinking about theoretical concepts that I then have to get answers to :(

Here it goes,

Light cycles are generally accepted at 18/6 for veg, but the days can be longer, up to 24/0 and 12/12 for flower, but down to 10/14. From what I understand, a plant requires 12 consecutive hours to flower, but as much light as you can give them when they're awake to allow for decent trichromes etc. Now, since we control our own day / night cycles, why can our days not be slightly longer, ie 30 hours, giving the plant its full 12 hours of darkness. Hell, we can even through in an hour beauty sleep and make it 13, followed by a 17 hour day for flowering.

Understandably, this will prabably increase the overall grow time, but theoretically you should have some bud that looks like its been dipped in baby oil. :woohoo:

Personally, I dont mind flowering an extra month if I know its taking my THC content from 15 to 20%. Just a though though. Has anyone tried this?

Indica and indica hybrids can start flowering with 10 hours of darkness. Ask anyone in South Florida about putting out plants too soon.

As for extra light hours, I'm not seeing how it would make for extra THC, which is primarily a function of genetics. More growth/larger plants maybe, which isn't a bad thing.

Lots of studies have been done using alternative light schedules. The nursery industry uses alternative light schedules for several reasons, and there is a big thread here somewhere discussing the benefits of odd lighting schedules, but I don't recall extra THC being one of the advantages.

I use 11 on 13 off to bring out more sativa traits. Dj short wrote an article on it if ur interested its in the breeding and dj forum. Also when I was reading the thread 12/1 on how to alter veg lighting I read some posts about adding an extra hour of light during the last 2 weeks or so of flowering. It might add a few days to the finish time but some phenotype changes were noted with increased resin production and increased yield. the info came from a respected breeder and grower so I am willing to give it a shot.
