GARLAND, Texas (AP) -- A woman apologized Friday for a "bad decision" in helping her 6-year-old daughter win tickets to a "Hannah Montana" concert with an essay that falsely claimed the girl's father died in Iraq.

Priscilla Ceballos said she hadn't intended to mislead the contest sponsor but got caught up in helping her daughter "realize her dream of seeing Hannah Montana."

"Instead I brought so much negative attention to my family," Ceballos said, reading a statement on NBC's "Today" show. "Please accept my heartfelt apology and please do not punish my child for my mistake."

Ceballos apologized specifically to the military and military families for falsely claiming the girl's father died in a roadside bombing in Iraq.

"I just wanted to help my daughter write a compelling story," she said. "There is no more compelling story than the struggle and sacrifices of our military and their families."

Officials with Chicago-based chain Club Libby Lu surprised the girl with the tickets and a makeover Dec. 28 at a store in a suburban Dallas mall. Club Libby Lu sells clothes, accessories and games for young girls.

The essay won her the grand prize: airfare for four to Albany, N.Y., and four tickets to the sold-out Hannah Montana concert Jan. 9. The opening line in the essay was: "My daddy died this year in Iraq."

Ceballos admitted later in the day to store officials that the essay and the military information she provided about her daughter's father were untrue.

Club Libby Lu withdrew the prize the next day and awarded it to another unnamed contestant.

"I meant no disrespect," Ceballos said on the "Today" show. "I just made a bad decision which I sincerely regret."



For starters who the fvck is Hannah Montana? Couldn't they just have bought tickets on eBay for a nothing show like that? Her dream was to lie and cheat the memories of fallen soldiers for this?

I figure she/they should get some community service tending the local military cemetary. Her daughter then should change her 'dream' to seeing her mother doing the right thing in life & teaching her the same.......

I've only had my experience with hannah montana recently. A buddy and I were video game shopping and came across hannah montanas sing alongs or some s***. didnt look at the case or anything to check it out but made some comment to my friend and we laughed about it for awhile. what a SFW

wow Dutch, that thread was brutal. I too started to doubt the story when he/she said that 'I got a call', they don't call & I was convinced on my own it was a scam when I read that 1/2 the funeral would be paid for....... THAT'S bvllshyt. USM pays 100% of funeral expenses.

How sad to try to take advantage of members here, many of us are infirmed (as I am) and on a budget, we don't have much to give, and we're the kind that likes to give to those in need.

And to shyt on the memory of fallen soldiers that way is even more sinful yet. If he went back to NYC area you can be sure he'll get a few thumpings just for being the scumbucket he is. folks running scams back east sometimes actually disappear forever, a few beatings he'll get at least.

the mother needs to be made to tend dead soldiers graves for a few years...the daughter well shes six, below any age where she could be considered responisble and really compeent to understand why it was such a horrible thing. and and cant really be blamed for that, i imagine the mum wrote the thing and the kid copied it out???....the poor little thing is gonna be forever remembered as the kid whos mom pretended that her daddy was dead for a prize..... That the mother would bring that kind of stigma on her kid is unthinkable...

First of all, I don't think that the little girl (she's 6 right?) should be punished. That's too young of an age to really say whether or not she knew what was so wrong about doing something so horrendous.

The mother however is a piece of shit. "realize her dream" of seeing Hannah montana... what kind of bullshit is that?

I had dreams I wanted to realize when I was in high school of meeting Heidi Klum, but I survived without that encounter (heidi, if you're reading this, I love you)

Either that or she should serve in the army infantry.
And they should check to see if she truely should have custody over her daughter, making decisions like that i wouldnt want my daughter being raised like that if I was the father.
