moldy buds

does anyone have advice how to save some of moldy buds? it has some white fuzz on it....can i jus clip it off and put it in the microwave to kill any mold that was on it? i know its not a good idea to keep it but has anyone tried to save there moldy buds with success?

first thing you should do is cut out the mouldy stuff to stop the spores spreading mate...hang them (the good ones) up then wait for someone with more knowledge than me to come and post to tell you what to do next.....

i cut out mold or rott, then try to dry buds a little faster than normal, get a a dehumidifier, and wait for someone else to chime in,peace

You can use the moldy buds to make bho.

Mould will spread if you leave it there to dry.
I would make BHO or bubble hash from the branches which had some mould on them if I was you. Not really the safest and nicest thing to smoke unless the mould spot was really small and you have seen it very early.

actually i'm tryin to save it to smoke i don't know how to make hash....do u think if i burn the mold off that'll do the trick?

i cut the moldy part off and quick dry the affected bud to kill the remaining mold and prevent any new spores from germinating.

i designed a little contraption for this a while back.

2 liter icecream container, cut 2 holes in either side, attatch small computer fan to one side, put wire mesh inside to rest weed on, black foam to seal the holes cut. then instead of putting the lid back on i cling wrap the top and leave the box in a normal bedroom with the light on. between the fast airflow and the light, the mold is dead. you might still have a problem if its proper bud rot coming from the center of a solid nug.

If you plan to save it, I would cut it in very small nugs.. The mould goes up and down the stem so in a few hours you can loose a lot of practically good bud by leaving it like that. I know one member of the forum who had left some cut branches with mould on them for a few hours because he had to sleep and when he woke up the mould had fairly spread out..
You should burn the mouldy parts for sure to insure that you have no more spores in the house..

I know one member of the forum who had left some cut branches with mould on them for a few hours because he had to sleep and when he woke up the mould had fairly spread out..
You should burn the mouldy parts for sure to insure that you have no more spores in the house..

Just throw the mold away , divide all the bigger nugs into little pieces so you can inspect everything , the nugs with mold you throw away , the good ones you keep

there are like a million different mold types though, some being more invasive than others.

there is this white spiderweb/cottonwool looking mold thats light and fluffy and develops ON the bud rather than inside the buds. With this type of mold i dont mind cleaning it off and smoking the nugs. Any blue or black colors on the mold and i wouldn't touch the stuff.

Cut of the moldy tops, put them loosely packed in the freezer for about 2 months, and make ICE
just be sure to use plenty of ice water to rinse the trichs once seperated

use a mini vacuum cleaner thingy or your fingers to get it off, microwaving your weed reduces its potency by a lot. its like vaping your weed and NOT inhaling the fumes LOL

If it's cobweb mold, spray 3% H2O2 on it. It should fizz away, otherwise it's something else. In my case, in my houseplants it tends to be cat fur most of the time, not mold.

You can't detect a specific mold unless you or somebody you know is a mycologist who can take a look at it. MOST of the time, eating moldy food or smoking moldy bud won't have any consequences, but the times it DOES happen, it can be very serious. Definitely don't do it if you don't have insurance (US).

Some thoughts:

* A food dehydrator, or getting them "bone dry" will kill off most fungi/bacteria but it won't sterilize the bud. Spores, endo spores, etc will likely survive (think of seeds).

* BHO should be OK. It can be dangerous to make, careful.

* Eating is safer than smoking. Your digestive system is pretty destructive and reliable.

* When the buds get dryer, the mold/spores can get off your buds and float throughout the room. Make sure you scrub down afterwards, and introduce a lot of fresh air.

* Just because you took off mold on the surface doesn't mean it's gone. What you see on the surface can be a byproduct or secondary symptom of the mold (i.e, the surface is just spores, not the actual fungus)

People underestimate how nasty the world of fungi can get.
In my opinion, it's a place you wanna be safe than sorry.
