Mold question...

Hey everyone

I seem to have a mold problem with the current grow. I think it's sorted now, there was only 2 plants affected and only one bud on each as far as I can tell.

Now to my question. I'm sure I've read about people water curing moldy bud, or chucking it through bubble bags or simular to at least extract the THC rather than waste it. Not sure whether that's true or not though

Is there anyone here that can recommend it that has done it himself?

Cheers :joint:

I have a grow and am not able to grow during the summer, due to my ghetto setup. I ended up having my main colas covered in mold. anyway... i was very pleased with the outcome of iso washes. I'm not sure if this kills the mold spores, but the oil/budder Shank retrieved was top notch.

that cola looks pretty fucked up m8
id shut off all fans and carefully bring that bitch outside away from yer other girls as to not cross contaminate her
also if you extract with iso how do you know you arent extractin poisonous alkaloids from the mold?
answer: you DON'T!
smokin mold in any form is terrible for yer body. if its the right kind of mold it can cause an instant lung infection.
or worse....

id dispose of them off-site, watch the other ladies closely, then when they finish bleach-bomb the room
with a hospital grade 20 parts water to 1 part household bleach. this will disinfect the grow room
and ensure no cross-contamination in future grows. the mold has released its reproductive spores (seeds) into the air
where they are just waiting to take hold when conditions are right.
if you use an extraction fan take it apart and clean the inside/blades with the bleach dilution.
run the room to clear it of fumes and grow-on. but cleanin teh room as i described is the only way to ensure this dont happen next grow.

hope this helps?

There was no overwatering, if anything it will have come from to much moisture in the air :chin: I've not had the xtractor on as high as usual to see if it has any effect on growth. It did, the buds where fatter than usual, but obviously I didn't get enough moisture out the air that way.

It started last week, there was one tiny leaf in that bud which was grey. I wondered what it was but it didn't look terribly bad so I didn't think about it. Than I came down 3 days later and thad bud was all grey and really mushy like, and when you pulled it open it was kind of foamy, I'm not sure how to explain it  Then 2 days ago I checked again, and it had gone all hard and dried out, same grey colour.

I thought it was mold but I didn't think it was so fast, I've never had mold before. I grow sativas which have mainly had airy buds. This is ECSD V3 which has smaller buds but they look a lot denser, maybee that was the problem :chin:

High Alex-F,

You can use bubble bags for getting hash from your moldy buds. But I'm also not sure if all mold spores will be killed. Once I read (here or on OG) some notes that the mold spores can survive these techniques.
I know this isn't a big help, but I did try.

blight/mold/mildew/whatever - dont smoke it.
make butter with whatever you salvage,
if you must consume it....
eatin it would be the lesser of two evils,
but still to be avoided if at all possible. srry :(

No worries, I'd rather be safe than sorry, there's plenty of good bud here so I won't be without :D

high there,
its not so much the mold spores
as they reside in the air you are breathing
in high-count, even at this very moment.
along with pollen, dust, dander, and bacterium.

its the mycelial colony that may contain
harmful or noxious toxins...

either way water and ice will not kill fungi spores.
especially resilient lower fungi (fungi imperfecti).
a solvent such as alchohol or butane would,
but again may be detrimental in that these solvents
may also pull undesirable things from the mold.
we just dont know. no studies done as far as i know.
