Mold in my soil bag?

So I have half a bag of ProMix soil and I was getting ready to mix up some for my soon to be revegged plants and I noticed all over the soil surface a greenish white mold or fungus.

Is this the mycorise fungus that is supposed to be in here or did something invade my soil bag?

Whoa I just bought a cube of it a month ago and it doesnt look like that. I better go check my shed, half of it is out there.

Pro Mix BX with Mycorise Pro? Is that what you bought?

Yeah same stuff. I kept the bag tightly rolled and pinned shut.

Did it get wet somehow? Mine is like super-dry and I just checked my bag in the shed and it looked fine. Im gonna keep my eye on it though. I use extra Rooter's Mycorrhizae in my soil and Ive never seen anything like you got going on.

Is it all like that? That would suck to lose a half bag of Pro-Mix.

That's not mychorizal fungus there.
Good thing is though it may have only inhabited the top 10% of the bag so scrape off that 10% layer and hope.

I ended up taking a big spoon and removing the top layer. It doesn't seem to penetrate below the soil surface. Hopefully things will turn out ok.

I was hoping somebody might be able to identify exactly what this stuff is though.

That is not mold. I work for a hydro store here in the south. That is very common with pro mix and ff light warrior. It is actually very good for all living cultures in your soil. I recomend people to mix there soil, then cover it and put it outside for a week or two until you see the yellow bubble like shit start to form. If you leave the soil bagged in a trunk of your car in hot tropical climate will speed the process up too. If the soil starts turning orange, that is normal after you see yellow growth

Everything you just said fits the description of a mold.
Believe me, it's a mold.

I had a buddy of mine that works at a garden supply store describe my little friends to his boss and she suspects it's just mushrooms working on the decaying material. I have had this huge bag for nearly a year now so that would probably explain that.

I cleared out the top layer and put my rooted clones in some fresh mix this morning. Hopefully if it comes back it isn't sapping nutrients from my little ones.

lol. I was just being funny. I went back and read my post and thought it didn't look to funny. I was being a smart ass. sorry. my humor is hard to get across sometimes. I was just giving my advice. we do see allot of heads bringing back soil-less And soil mixes asking what this is. I see it happen in tropical climates more than not. Also in hot days with high RH.

You should read Stamets book: "the Mushroom Cultivator"

Basically peat is a perfect substrate for mold in a high temp, high humidity environment.
Peat (out of the bag) is basically sterile afterall and mold spores are everywhere! They are right in front of your face!
