Mixing Pro-Mix and coco

I happened to have a decent amount of pro-mix bx, and a few blocks of coco coir. Is there any particular reason why mixing them would be a bad idea? It seems like something that I would like to try, but i wasnt sure if there would be any problems with the coco and lime in the pro-mix or something like that. Thanks!

No, I don't think there will be problems. I wouldn't add more lime, and I would start off treating it more like a coco grow. What's in the Pro-Mix itself? IIRC it's a mix of sphagnum peat and coco coir, along with some other 'goodies'.

Ingredients:
• Canadian Sphagnum peat moss (75-85 % / volume)
• Perlite -horticultural grade
• Vermiculite - horticultural grade
• Dolomitic and Calcitic limestone (pH adjuster)
• Wetting Agent
• Mycorrhizae - endomycorrhizal fungi (Glomus intraradices)

Mix away, I say. Just be sure the coir isn't full of salt, and charge it with a mild solution of fertilizer (around 250ppm on the .5 scale, or quarter to eighth strength) and calcium (liquid is my own suggestion, you need to get sites bonded in the coir, I like BioLink's 6% Ca) before adding it to the Pro-Mix.

I would feed in the mid-5 range, watch the plants to see how they respond, and ALWAYS be sure to give them sufficient Ca from the beginning so as to avoid problems in the future. If you're using something like that 6% I mentioned above, charge with around 20mls/gal, and feed at around 5-10mls/gal.

how you feed ph is gonna depend on how much coco. i dont ph anything. i am looking for the balance. at 15 percent i am treating it like regular soil. i dont want to ever ph anything.
