Mites - 2 weeks untill harvest

So, I'm experiencing spider mites for the first time in my growing career, and this problem could probably been avoided but i didn't see the signs, or rather, i couldn't interpret them.

So, as topic says, its about two weeks until harvest of the first plant, and about 1 more for the next. Question if now if I should harvest now or if i actually should do something against them mites?

Thanks in advance.

Damn we hate those things.. How bad?

Have webs? -- harvest and clean them up.

If there fairly minor, no webs and just see a few white dots you should be o.k, but take a Shop-Vac and suck'um up.

I used Mighty wash when I had a few floaters, killed them all.
Others use Neem oil before flower as a preventative..

Hope I was some help, a picture would help aswell, but good luck man! Peace!

Remember you can hang them in a shower/wash tub and blow them bugs off aswell, water wont hurt anything.

well, since i haven't had the experience of mites before, it started to develop about 4 weeks into vegg, didn't know what the problem was when the light dots appeared on the fan leaves.

What made me notice is the web going from the Fan leaves to the stem of the fan leaves, nothing more yet though.

Yea really just keep Vac'n them little suckers, Only lame part about this is... If you have like 6+ Mature plants it takes a few doobies to do.

How do they look though? still healthy just a little ugly?

Also, My local Hydro shop sells 15 THOUSAND lady bugs for 15 bucks... Now I THINK they will eat those Mites up... Hopefully someone will chime in on this stuff!

Good luck Mate!

F*ckin spider mites! Clean em up quickly. A few on the fans arent too bad, but when the webs are easily visible, youve got a problem. Ive seen it get bad enough that the plant just stopped producing. They drain the vitality of the plant. They are the succubi of the plant kingdom. cheers

I chopped one of the plants, which was a Skunk #1 with like a week left untill harvest, other one is a pretty big Northern Light that looks pretty fugly.
As stated above, only visible web so far is between the fan leaves and the leafs stems, nothing on buds/main stem yet.

Sadly, theres no hydro shop nearby, but theres a zoo-shop in town, got to check it out.

Vacuuming will be the first step then, have started to gently spray the leaves with soap solution and going to clean the whole space out thoroughly.
Lets hope this wont be a problem in the future.

Isopropyl alcohol (91% is best, IMO) mixed 50/50 with water, applied every three days. You've GOT to be religious about it, but apply it every three days. It should keep populations in check at this point, and is far, far better than using any kind of soap on the plant. Use the iso mix, then vacuum once it's dried.

u need to vaccuum them off two times a day until harvest...

i'd go w this too... and spend the time using u'r fingers to squash as many as possible afterwards... try to run u'r fingers down the blades of the leaves to wipe em off & smush em dead.

esp if you only have a handful of plants... better vs spraying anything on em this late. gl man

If there's a 'zoo' shop in town, ask for a treatment for mites on pigeons, Harkers Harka Mectin is the product in the UK ...... it's gone after 7 days so your home free

Leave them and they'll cover your meds in little balls of shit and continue to multiply until you're room is infected

With at least two weeks to go there is a one shot option that i personally consider to be safe for a product that is smoked , many would disagree.

Close down the ventilation , hang a double dose of vapona/hot shot/dichlorvos strips for one dark cycle and remove.

Two weeks of HID will degrade the residual dichlorvos , its still used in warehouses and silos against storage mites , and every local egg farm includeing organic.

Allright!

Thanks everyone for the tips, been calculating the best way to do it in my particular scenario.

So far I've started with the vacuuming, hoping for the best.
Got good results so far with laot of mothers dissapearing (The big black ones)
Can't speak for eggs or young-mites yet though.

If I see an increase of the symptoms within this week, i will concider other alternatives.
WOuld rather prefer keeping away from poinsons or sprays, got really bad experience with mold and budrot due to high humidity and spraying during bloom.

Is lady bugs safe to use? Will they consume all the mites without hurting the plant?

I think you might want to reread what foomar had to say on the efficacy of lady bugs. I think you may end up with a roomful of dead lady bugs, myself.

Wow, REALLY? Even organic? I know that the US and Canada have now agreed to accept each other's organic standards, and I believe that Canada has made an agreement with the EU on cross-acceptance.

But I never would have thought that NPS (dichlorvos) would be an accepted organic pest management strategy.

Here in the UK there has always been a huge difference between the high standards farmers sign up for , and what really happens.

Almost every banned pesticide is still available, along with unlicensed imports of current listed chems at half the price and no paperwork , and no requirement to keep records.

Dichlorvos was banned from public sale here due to the real threat of a child ingesting the solid waxy retail product which looked like a strip of cheese , which would prove fatal.
The threat from inhalation is minimal if used sensibly , the product is available on license for pest control in certain conditions and this option is exploited.

Every baby and child probably had a vapona strip hanging in their room in the 50 - 70,s and its still used widely in India and most of Asia.

Used briefly on demand its safer than a lot of the hard chems that people hose around in panic mid flower , criminal things have been done to commercial crops locally over the years with a week to go.

Where do I get Hot Shot equivalents from then

Stores catering for the Indian or Pakistani /Bangladeshi community in most cities will carry them , but you might have to ask as tradeing standards sometimes have a try at enforcement and are not always on show.

Pack brought last year had farsi script warnings with garish jap style images , and the memorable but non EEC compliant english translation as To consume , is to embrace death , saudi/gulf market intended.

These shops usually have the best fruit and veg at the lowest prices , and Halal meat is as fresh as you an get .

Nearly all pest control firms will use it, most stables , pigeon fanciers and kennels , costs a bit more sold on this way but you dont need much and it stores forever fozen.

Dont know if customs would notice or intercept if mailed from US to UK , could set of explosive sniffers and probably banned from airfreight/mail anyway.
