Well I am glad you like the emergency blanket idea it work great for me as I'm sure it will for you. I kinda feel bad that you gotta rebuild now but at the same time I think it will be worth it lol. I like what I see so far keep up the good work. I think ill stick around for the trip.

Enjoyed the thread so far penniless, It's good to watch the problem solving that goes on around here.
Always keep your eye on the prize. Get as much light as you can on them, and you'll make the goal.

WHY LORD WHY?! Lt. Dan Fist Shake Pt. 2

WHY LORD WHY?! Lt. Dan Fist Shake Pt. 2

al70: Good call. I have 14 on this rig. I'm thinking of adding side lights, but I'm starting to trip breakers if anyone plugs in a vacuum or a hair dryer to the circuit. Time to wire a new breaker. I hate crawling under our house. :cuss: And those big hairy spiders.:yoinks:

PurpleJungle: Thanks for the kind words. Let's hope this proves entertaining and maybe even productive. (Cross your fingers for me.)

Boyd: Ouch. That's a tough bill to swallow. Hope the grow worked out for you. I have some bad news about MY grow progress down below.

Lexort: I think you're right. It's going to be worth the rebuild and I'll probably start out by using the idea for the veg room hood I'm going to build. Looks like this is going to take a second longer than I thought..but no distance is too great if the company is good.

paper thorn: Good advice. Always good to hear from those who know wtf they're doing. Maybe this'll be entertaining enough to keep you reading.

WHY OH WHY GOD?! LT. DAN FIST SHAKE PT. 2

I am devastated. No..wait. That's a word so that can't be what I'm feeling, because what I'm feeling defies words. It eludes words. It sucks words into a black hole of misery from which even their alphabetic archetypes are mashed into a fine paste.

Ok got that out of my system.

That beautiful plant that I spent those weeks cultivating and babying, planning and building for..is DEAD. I mean DEAD. And I haven't even built a cloner yet to try to save something. F#$% f@%# f*$& f%@ f!$#..and one more..FUCK! Ok this time I've really gotten it out of my system.

The strawberry cough is pulling through. Probably because I hadn't stuck an inside out EZ Bake oven in her interior...yet. I just gave her main stem it's second tie down. She's growing so slowly though.

I should be picking up bio-root and PH up concentrate today to give her a fresh res. With some healthier roots, I'm hoping she'll pick up the pace.

R.I.P. Ramba..

What I typically use for adjusting ph is apple cider vinegar and baking soda. I don't really need the baking soda though because my water is usually 7 or 7.5 so I end up only using the apple cider vinegar stuff to bring it down to the desired lvl. However your doing dwc so vinegar might not be cost effective for you. Just a thought.

And then there were 14..

And then there were 14..

Lexort: Once again with the great info. Thanks. Bought a bottle of JABOLKOV OCET at the Macedonian store on the corner. It took ONE cap full of that stuff to adjust my PH after adding all the nutes and supplements. Good call. Thanks again. You might be on the road to the title of "Weed Wizard" in my book. ;)

Boyd: Oh yea. As I get the cash I WILL be adding more wattage. But I currently have two things holding more power back: 1. I'm using so much juice, I'm tripping a circuit breaker (on the circuit I tapped into) every time someone plugs a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner into the wrong outlet. Time for a new 20A breaker. 2. Heat buildup. I still haven't had time or $$ to install a good air exhaust/intake system in my grow room, so I'm leaving the door open and exhausting the air with a fan until that's rectified. Adding more bulbs right now would only make things worse. But YES..definitely...1K is the goal. Today 600W...tomorrow..the WORLD.

And then there were 14..

Unless we're talking about cigarettes, shit jobs or women of drama...I'm not a quitter. Ramba's death tore a brother up a little bit. But I gotta keep it on a positive tip or I'm bound to drown.

So I took 30 seeds and chucked em into a tupperware container full of H2O2 spiked water and forgot about them for a day or two.

3 days later I remembered what my Foster's and foolishness induced haze had done and checked on em:

UNEXPECTED! :bigeye: 13 sprouts.

Ok.. Truth be told I don't know what the F to do with 13 sprouts.

Still, I know half of them are likely to be males..so what to do? I can't just throw them out. I mean..in teenager speak: they didn't ask to be germinated.

Besides I don't know who's a male, whose a female..what their turn ons and turn offs are. The weed of my dreams may be in this bunch.

I guess I gotta keep them all for now.

Off to buy some last minute starter soil (Ferry & Morse Starter Mix. If you have PH info on this stuff, I'm all ears.) And while I was there, I bought a much better cool mist humidifier.

Tapped out after 9.5 hours on the job, I started planting tap roots with seeds attached.

For the record, it seems like this is a contest. The sort of contest the evolutionary process approves of wholeheartedly:

30 seeds step into the ring..only 3 step out.

As we go along, I'm going to try to name or number each seedling and describe them in detail. Think of it as a marijuana track and field event where the winner moves on to the next tier.

Tier 1? Only the Alive survive.

Tier 2? Roots: Surviving the move.

Tier 3? The Amazon stage: Girls only club.

Tier 4? I'd appreciate it if YOU shared your opinions on what traits you think identify strong plants. Pick your criteria: Fast growth, tight node spacing, strong roots structure, growth color. It doesn't matter and you can't be wrong. I'll appreciate your opinion no matter where it tends to hang its hat. I tend to find the ideas that work for me. The more ideas to choose from..the better.

Got my meters in the mail and used them for the first time. They seem well calibrated right out of the package. I got both the TDS and the Ph meter with free shipping for about $16. They arrived in about 4 days. Here's the guy: Grow Meter Guy dd707city

"Shortcake" (the strawberry cough plant) just got her first new RES with fresh nutes, silicon, root enhancer and WEE touch of apple vinegar. (Thanks again lextor!) It's a good feeling knowing I can make my own res solution. A really good feeling. (P.S. They sell the batteries for these cheap meters at Dollar Tree. LR-44/AG-13 4 for $1. Powering my meters cost $1.50)

I have 3 spaces left for plants. Let the games begin!

Smoke on y'all..and get ready to pick a horse..

Hmmm weed wizard I like the sound of that lol no but in all seriousness I'm glad I could help out. I'm no pro by any means I'm just a poor guy trying to be self-sufficient.

Just Like Starting Over..

Just Like Starting Over..

Despite two brushes with death, I remain hopeful that this venture will find her rhythm. I am very seriously considering going to soil. The buffer against root rot that soil seems to provide might be indispensable at my experience level.

But the plants looks so much happier in DWC when it's doing its thing correctly. They literally look greener and lusher than the clones I just picked up or the little one I...oh yea...that in a minute.

So yea, I went and picked up 3 clones. With the luck I've been having I skipped the whole hour long drive to get the best and just went with someone who lived 2 miles from me and wanted a donation of $15 for 2. They are Bubba Kush that just happen to also be in flower already. Put em into veg with the others, but in a sort of quarantine. I want to sterilize them and let them adjust to lower ph for a bit before putting them in the DWC. (This guy had no idea what the ph of his soil was. Try 7.3..ouch. No wonder their leaves were so pale and yellowing. (Guess I got what I donated for.) With a little luck I'm going to get to see monstercropping first hand by accident.

The third one I got from a friend of mine so I know it's disease free and a good strain (he grows from feminized beans.) I transplanted her first. She's a Ghost Train Haze.

Also..if you look back behind the two Bubbas, you'll see a little plant I found in a discard pile of dead beans I have behind my strawberry patch. Not sure what she'll turn out to be. I'm pretty excited about it. :dance013:

More updates after work.

Be well y'all and smoke on..

What killed the 2nd plant? Root aphids? If so you gotta get rid of Em before you go plunking new plants down. Good luck! Your gonna learn lots.... Plants keep dying try all from seed after a proper clean...

I'd expect some more critters the more clones you bring in. Usually clones require quarantine and daily inspection...

sourpuss: The second plant died due to root rot. The AC unit was accidentally placed on FAN ONLY instead of LO COOL. The temps hit upward of 100 in there. I'm lucky my strawberry cough didn't die as well. The root aphids have been destroyed. Hot water bath at about 123 degrees F for 5 minutes did the trick.

Sweet!! Minus the root rot.... sorry if I missed that... rock on bro!!! Cant say much for getti g rid of pests myself... I let some fungus gnats live for way too long in 1 of my grows out of sheer laziness...

Im a man of make due to save a few myself... will be lurking..

Bummer about the root rot. Bitch about buckets.
So you got a plan for dealing with those spiders so you can get some power in there? power and heat - grower's bane.

If you want hydo like growth but the buffer from soil I suggest you look into a soil less mix. That's what I use and ill tell you what it is so much better than actual soil it's not even funny. I planted some seeds and once they came up above the surface about 2 weeks after that I had to flower them or I would have run out of head room now I will say I micro grow but I had some nice little bushes. And if you want to stay cheap try and find jiffy natural & organic seed starting mix. That's what I use and it like 4 or 5 bucks a bag. I don't use organic ferts but it handles regular ferts fine. Only problem with it is it sinks down after awhile but to remedy that I water with diluted hydrogen peroxide once and awhile and it puffs back up. Here's my proof

That picture is after the first stage of harvest. I had to harvest in stages so the lower stuff could catch up.

sourpuss - A friend of mine used to say: "Hard work pays of eventually. Laziness pays off now." Now that I found the Root Aphids Killed With Hot Water thread, I get to be lazy when I'm eliminating aphids..and save a few. ;)

paper thorn - Been trying to catch up with your grow thread(and mine!) So far the room looks GREAT! :tiphat: It's always a good feeling when you start a project in your mind, then finally get to sit down and enjoy the completed thing. I'm going to be wiring a new breaker myself, and some of your photos gave me some ideas for saving a buck. :D

Lexort - Once again you come through with the goods! You seem to have perfected the thing that I'm just trying to get the hang of: Coming up with a start-with-nothing-and-build-you-way-up method that allows me to grow anywhere, anytime with or ESPECIALLY without a budget. Eventually, I'd like to be able to source the ingredients for a soil less mix myself from nature. I'll be checking into your grow diary (if you have one) just to dip a cup in the well of knowledge and save myself a headache or two.

Smoke on y'all..update coming..

Goober and Gump go for a swim

Goober and Gump go for a swim

Goober And Gump Go For A Swim

So when we last left our heroines, Casey (Jones. She's a Ghost Train Haze), had just been transplanted from soil to DWC. I'm happy to say her leaves are slowly turning a nice dark green from the semi-pale olive-yellow they were before. She's also started to perk up, so I'm guessing successful transplant. Here's a pic:

Now I'm currently running 2 10 gallon pumps. To run 4 buckets, I'm using two pumps with T connectors and a check valve to equalize the bubbles between the two buckets that share a pump. Because Shortcake is so rooty, I want to make sure she has a slightly larger share of oxygen, so I'm pairing her with one of the Bubbas since their roots are so small I can give them a little less(?) In then end I'll probably go with a larger pump next time, or a separate pump for each plant. A failed pump wouldn't mean TWO dead plants if I did it that way. Speaking of bubblers, I up this bubbler at the thrift store..new in the box! They were having half off day, so I got it for $2.50!!

Ok, so with buckets, bubbles and clay pebbles in hand, I got Goober and Gump situated in their new homes. We'll see how they come through. I tested the Ph of the runoff from their soil and it measured about 6.8, so I dialed their res solution in to about 6.4 so that I can slowly lower them down over the course of the next week or two to 5.5. I haven't really settled on how I'm going to tame their height. They are both likely to monstercrop, so I want to wait and see if they do before I either: spiral them, or start doing something else like supercropping and topping. If I can stay LST, that's better..always. Here they are, anyway:

Shortcake has FINALLY grown out her side branches enough for me to tie them down. She's a slow lover who requires a patient hand. I gotta admit it..I am NOT that guy in the grow room. In other areas of life..maybe. Not here. *Hurry up and GROW dammit! I want to tie you down!!* She's liking her center light. I think she enjoys the extra attention that comes from having a spotlight all to yourself. Here's a selfie she took with her iPhone. (I admit it..she's a spoiled princess..):

The seeds are worrying me..but more about that in the next update. You see, Daffy found some Magic Beans(more on that next update) and I want to talk about all of that sprout stuff in one place.

Until then, here's a picture here of the girls getting settled into their new home:

I sit for long hours..looking..watching..witnessing..falling in love all over again.

Grow long and prosper..oh and smoke on..

Well the mix I use says its 50-60% sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite, coir pith and lime for ph balance. Not sure about the ratio for the other stuff. Currently I actually don't have a journal going but I'm working on a reveg so I can clone the plant that's revegging because I really liked the plant but at the time I started it I hadn't had a second chamber but now I do. I did a crap ton of research before I even started growing and alot of my research led me to seek out cheaper alternatives to everything everyone states you need to grow. My way isn't perfect but it goes to show a poor Smuck like me can grow successfully. Out of three plants I got roughly 2.5 ounces which is a estimate due to not having a scale but I figured it to be that due to 1/8 lasts me typically 3 or 4 days and I was set for smoking everyday all day for 2 months so nothing for me to sneeze at. I'm totally in for this ride and if I can help you along the way I will. I'm no pro by any means but my knowledge is your knowledge

Lexort: At the end of the day, there is a new Gold Rush that is happening and will be going on for quite some time. Anyone who can learn the art of growing top grade weed will have a reasonably secure future..regardless of what the economy does.

As most of us already know, weed is a liquid asset, an amazing medicine and for some, a really good friend. :friends:

So if a guy can walk into a town he's never been to with little spare cash and get his grow-op started on a dime, a wing and a prayer (to the pot gods), then it won't be long before his friend, business associate and financial situations improve. That sure makes life, liberty and happiness a lot easier to pursue.

:plant grow::party:

So a half pound of top shelf chronic is the goal. Thanks for sharing the adventure. Like paper thorn might say: Half pound ain't NOTHIN! C'mon son!

Smoke on, brother..

Daf and the Magic Beans

Daf and the Magic Beans

So this entry is a bit of a side track.

The Bubba sisters aren't looking too good. Goober's bottom leaves are turning a golden yellow.

I'm guessing it's transplant shock/minor root damage that's slowing nutrient uptake but I really have no clue. Goober's leaves are curling down a tad, but not wilty, Gump's are curling up a touch. I had their nute solution a bit weak, so I upped it to normal. Hope that didn't finish them off.

Daf and the Magic Beans

So I messed up my thumb pretty badly and had to take a few days off. A neighbor and I both have our medical cards. Time for a dispensary adventure!

Most of the dispensaries in this area are south of 8 mile. We hopped into the car, got some gas and started looking around. The first place we stopped was called "The Reef." It was a green building and we figured it probably was a play on the word "reefer."

Nope. It was an aquarium supply shop and it was still under construction.

Back to the car.

We drove down 8 mile a bit more until we came across a place called: STARBUDS

They were very helpful and had some really great smoke. I picked up a gram each of OG Kush and Deathstar. (I didn't want to run out of budget before we'd found the Willy Wonka of Weed in the area.)

We hit like 4 other places. They all gave you a gram for being a new member. THere was the THC Wellness Center and Fuego and Helping Hand Holistic Center (they were the best of the bunch.)

It was like going trick- or-treating in Weed World. Bags of pipes and papers and free doobies and free grams. Hell one even gave us a can of weed tea. We'd buy a G or two and move on to the next goodie bag.

The only "incident" was when a guy sort of tricked us into thinking some stuff was a $15 donation per gram, then recommended one that turned out to be $18 without mentioning the difference until we got to the register. (That was at Fuego.)

The extra 3 bucks turned out to be worth it since I found TWO seeds in that gram of 27.97% THC top-shelf yum-yum. This stuff could have inspired the term "one hit it and quit it." (But it tastes so gooood..maybe 3 more.)

So now I've got a strain I definitely want to dial in. But first, I've got to get the hang of growing seedlings and clones before I waste an unexpected present from the universe like this.

Smoke on y'all and thanks for checking in..
