Miracle-Gro question...

I have some seedlings growing in Miracle-Gro with the slow release nutes. Well they are burning my babies and I was wondering if I can flush the nutes out? I assume that the time release part is going to be the hard part. Any suggestions?

Do you have any other soil? Miracle-Gro is too 'hot' of a soil for the seedling stage..I would think the seedlings would go into shock and possibly die if you try to flush them now..You can use it as your plants progress but, Personally I would look for a non pre-ferted medium for the young ones..Someone correct me if i'm wrong..Do you have any pics? Peace

not only is mg pre-ferted soil too hot, the pH is also quite jankey.

If they are not too badly burned they might pull through and if they do, on your first transplant, give them some real soil (ffof, black gold O, ect)

But for the love of god, don't feed them anything untill they are begging for it!

Yeah, wasn't thinking too deep at the time I bought the soil. I was trying to save a bit of time. Unfortunately this is not my first time growing. just haven't done it in a while. I do have a homemade promix blen that worked well last time I used it, cept it have fungus gnats. they are 3 weeks old now. I'm using the BOG method with the three transplants. I'm on the second till I sex them. I will transplant into the promix that I have.

If it is the time release 3 month formula, you won't be able to flush it out of the soil. I think it works identical to osmocote. You should be able to see small round fertilizer pellets in the soil. These fill up with water and fertilizer + water "oozes" through the shell. More water does not effect the release rate of the fertilizer. Temperature affects the release rate. This can be good or bad. This type of fertilizer is good outdoors when you have heavy rain because some fertilizer will remain with the soil and keep the plants growing. Interestingly, I heard that osmocote when left on the surface of the soil can explode when the temperature gets too high like sunlight exposure.

Thanks for all the help with this. I'm growing in a c-13 so space is an issue. i have 9 in medium size pots. the next size up, i can only fit 5. I was thinking about taking cuttings and starting anew. I have to update the pictures. they have grown. but they are all lanky. they look like hell.

Well I took some updated pictures. Last night, I flushed one to see what effect it had. Well it improved in the new growth. the top leaves got wider. I ended up flushing the less then a quart pots with 2 gallons of water each. I figure its at least trying something.
