Anyone use this stuff? I picked some up at wally world.
Normally I avoid mg like the plague, but this only has all
organic micronutes,etc. and NO osmocote.I haven't used
it yet,so I thought I'd get some feedback first.
Oh Yes, I used this for my most recent grow and it worked great... I just added a bunch of perlite and some Holy-Tone from Espoma (contains kelp meal, crab meal, seabird guano, all types of goodies) and it was like i had created my own version of Fox Farm Ocean Forest potting soil... which is great because I've always wanted to use that soil but there are no distributers near me and I'm not desperate enough to order a bag of soil off the internet.
The MG made a great light and airy soil mix that my plants seemed to love... even with the addition of all the goodies in the Espoma dry mix the plants didn't burn at all and I started them in the mix. Seems like a good alternative to buying all the individual manure's and what not if you want to make ur own organic mix. I think from now on I will be sticking with this MG organic soil as a base for my own mixes until I get some Fox Farm. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a cheap organic base
O.K....I searched hard, but all I found were threads on reg. mg
soil w/the osmocote.THIS is mg ORGANIC mix.No extra ferts,
only natural trace elements,top soil,perlite,and lime.So,has any-
one else used this stuff?Pros/cons?Anything?
I'm giving this stuff a shot on my outdoor crop. I didn't feel like taking the time to mix up my normal soil and this stuff looked interesting. I just added some perlite and threw it in the holes.
Heres a shot of my outdoor from this year. So far so good with the soil. I haven't fed yet and I'm not seeing any deficiencies or any signs of burning.
cool, nms. Are ya gonna do a grow thread? If so,I'd like to follow your progress.Anyone else care to chime in?BTW nms, that baby looks really healthy...clone,or from seed?
squid
No, I'm not really planning on doing a grow thread for this one. I'll post updates in the midwest outdoors thread throughout the grow though. http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=20648
That one is from seed, my own cross. (Kush x Black Domina) x Papaya. Just a tad over 3ft and starting to show female preflowers, so if all goes well I'll be able to see what kind of bud this "organic" mg can make.
BurnOne is right its chicken shit, some feathers and wood shavings for the most part. I am not sure how comfortable I am with that as theres no way to know the quality from batch to batch, ie. different types of poultry, different feed, different bedding. Poultry litter also usually carries alot of nasties so MG pausterizes it but that unforunately kills all the organic goodies in there too.
BTW- only difference between MG garden or potting soil is they mix perlite into their potting soil.
i only use it for my seedlings or clones that are going outdoors, they are in the cups for 10-21 days...indoors it's straight organics and the good stuff from beginning to end!
Instead of the M~grow soil,, try that "other" brand Wally world carries..
It's called "Pro-Mix" in a kinda orange colored bag, Says it feeds up too 9 months....
Thats what I'm using and it works great!.....(better than M-grow, and I tried both).
Check out the "NC grow" in the outdoor forum.
Peace LD
I tried the Pro-Mix once before and my shit all died... Can't truthfully blame it on the soil, but I switched after that and have had really good results since. What can I say, I'm a grudge holder lol. Damn that soil!
Heres an update on the MG "organic". My plants seem to like it well enough. I think they grow better in my own mixed soil, but this was a lazy way to get some plants outside. So far this soil has been very good at retaining moisture in the 90+ weather weve been having.
