Mini-split Maintenance

Purchased this product recently and found it HIGHLY effective at restoring my mini-splits original performance.

https://www.speedclean.com

I used the "bib" kit and cleanser concentrate with a pump sprayer on the impeller fan and was shocked at the amount of crud that was washed and rinsed through the clear bib.

Fantastic system, 30-45 min on each head unit and CFMs went up substantially and the coils seem to be pulling more humidity from the air. :tiphat:

The best way to clean the blower wheel is to remove it. They all come off pretty much the same way. Google is your friend...:)

Agreed.

I've seen some nasty shit on the wheels of a mini split.

did not know that... I might try that method on the next cycle, just to check my work with the bib system.

However, it looks like the bib system is a bit faster and it cleans the coils, trays and ducting all at the same time. And an idiot (me) can do it without much disassembly or risk of breakage...

For those whose friend is not google, the reusable bib kit is ~100bucks, and the coil cleaner concentrate is ~30 and that cleans 5-6 units.

Hey all:tiphat:
On my mini split I just noticed a little bit of transparent slime that stained the beginning of my drainage hose.

The drainage hose is transparent , hence why I noticed that.

I was thinking that must be some residual from the various foliar spray that I did ( spinosad...high brix mineral supplements...but also some nasty abamectin)

Or......could be any refrigerant leaking?
Is it even possible a refrigerant leak inside the drainage hose?
Did anyone found something similar?

The unit is an almost new panasonic, and is still working perfectly...

Thanks all!:dance013:

Refrigerant is a gas at room temperature and normal atmospheric pressure.

no refrigerant leak let a specific oil smell around the dudgeons connection/valves
if you see oil on the coppers then there is probably a leak

Sometimes the installer will use a soap spray to check his work for leaks, this tends to flow slowly downhill - could be that.

More likely however is that it is a mold that has taken up residence in the wonderful warm moist enviornment of your drain tube.

My condensate drains into a slop sink and their is a nice clear snot hanging from it right now. I normally run a bleach solution through the drainage system periodically to keep this growth in check, I guess I'm due again...

Thanks all for the replies!:dance013:
Yeah, for refrigerant leaks I meant the actual residual oil that those gases leaves...ill definitely take a peek at the coils but im now thinking is just gunk/slime....

Yup! Clear snot is a better definition of what I saw
I guess I should check also the collection tanks that I have...they will for sure have life in em!:monkeyeat:monkeyeat :monkeyeat

I meant the two 7 gal tanks that recollect the water from the drain hose...
I gave em a rinse with soap and then vinegar ....

Most people dont install the washable filter, keep it installed and wash it weekly will help keep your evap and blower clean.

Having too much humidity in your room will be a sure way to grow mold and garbage in your unit.

Folks in northern areas just might want to look into getting a low ambient kit for their minis JS.

The only mini split you should be getting is a heatpump, this will allow the unit to run even when its -20.

You are silly if you get an ac only mini split and plan to use it in the cold weather.
