Mini split in attic?

I am wanting to do attic grow but I do not have access to any outside wall, what are my opinions for air conditioning? Can I use a mini split and just put the compressor in the attic outside of the grow room? The summers are hot here! Any input will be appreciated. This is the only obstacle keeping me from growing again.

Only if you exhaust the attic.
Leaving it in a hot room will decrease the efficiency and longevity of the ac. It may even overheat and shutdown.

^^ What he said. The compressors purpose is to cool the the coil inside. If your ambient temps are 100F+, you're air conditioner will simply not work... at all. It won't be able to cool itself, let alone the hot air from your grow room. You would need a serious attic fan, which still might not be enough.

You might be able to make it work during the winter, when attic temps are low. However, I believe you would have a hard time exhausting enough heat from the attic in summer to make the a/c work well.

Thanks for the replys! I misstated that the compressor would be outside of the grow space, it should have read CONDENSER. The size of the attic adjacent to the 80sqf grow room is approximately 800 sqf with vented eaves with ridge vents up top. Can this work if I use some sort of fan to help with moving the air?

You can mount an exhaust fan in the part of the attic with the compressor. If that fan fails though your AC will most likely fail as well. Over size the fan as you will not be able to go "to big." It would be safer to mount the compressor outside, but it would not be as stealth. Nothing worse than a foot of snow on the ground, and an AC running like crazy. :)

Actually your minisplit will work quite well at 100 degrees. If you can stay in that zone I would say it would work. Problem is staying in that zone! That split will dump heat into that 800SF so fast you could practically roast a chicken in the it! Providing enough air to the condensing unit would require some serious fans. Add to the already loud fan in your split and you'll likely have noise issues to deal with.

Plans have changed a little, after more research I realise that I can put the condensor outside on the ground. So now I know how to make it work, I just need some input on witch size unit I need. The grow room is 8' x10' or about 560 cubic feet, the ceiling is 8' sloped down to 4'. will be running 2 1000 watt air cooled hoods. will a 9000 mini work or do I need a 12000 for when it gets hot in the summer?

It will work Vietnamese do this all the time. Just need a really nice attic fan sucking air out. I have a guy that has 5-3 ton mini splits in the attic. They have been running very smooth no problems for 2 years now. Attic fan bringing in constant fresh air is the ticket. I'll be doing this when I switch locations. No condenser outside no noise no pain in the ass neighbors that's what I love the most!
