Fredrich, mitisbishi, or LG. Except no substitutes PERIOD. Also there is a tutorial in my redemption thread (link in sig) for how to install a mini split yourself. The tutorial is in two parts, a couple pages apart. Just look for the pictures . Also feel free to pm me if you need any further assistance with buying or the install.
stick with something that has a track record of *reliability*
I got a mitsu mr slim,
i could have saved a about a $1000 going with a goodman.
the extra money saved on a cheaper less well built unit won't mean a thing
if it breaks down and you can't get the parts for weeks and you have 50-60 tree's that just went into 12/12 and the outside temps are pushin upper 90s etc etc etc
also the top brands have the inverter tech. compressors, power loss restart memory
Ive heard alot of good stuff about Mitsubishi mr slim but not so much LG. When it came to Make my decision my hvac guy said go fujitsu (33k halcyon inverter) over mitsu but im sure you can't go wrong with either.
I spent about 15-20% more because i went through my hvac guy for the unit but I am very happy with it, and because i bought it through him its covered under warranty if anything were to go wrong with it.
I live in SF where no one really has an A/C because it doesn't get hot enough so the amount of noise the condenser made was a big deal to me. When it fired up I couldn't believe how quiet this thing was. You can barely hear it even when you stand next to it. The only units i've run have been excel air precharged units
That I've installed with me an another friend. After installing one of these fujitsus though I'd never go back to using an excel. Their loud as shit and IMHO are complete garbage. They also average about 20-25 amps to run while my fujitsu only pulls a max of 8 and an average of about 6. Good luck man you won't regret it if you do it right.
