PALM BAY, Fla. -- Investigators said they cleared out a Palm Bay home with a million dollars worth of marijuana and said it was just a drop in the bucket to a bigger operation.

SLIDESHOW: Marijuana Plants Pulled From Homes

Twenty warrants were served, from South Florida to Palm Bay, in a large-scale, statewide crackdown on grow houses.
The city of Palm Bay had already boarded up the garage of one home by Tuesday afternoon. The door had to be ripped out because it was rigged so no one would ever know what was going on inside and the amount of marijuana being grown.
After agents busted through a fake wall inside the unassuming, well-kept home, the marijuana could be smelled a block away. Inside, agents found more than 50 mature marijuana plants, some as tall as six feet, ready to be harvested and sold on the streets.
Federal drug enforcement agents raided 11 grow houses, spanning the sunshine state from Miami-Dade to Brevard County. Investigators said they are all part of one organized group growing and distributing marijuana across Florida
Agents couldn't say how many people total were arrested. Five were taken away in cuffs in Palm Bay alone, but the two Palm Bay homes raided weren't being used just to raise illegal crops.
"There are children at both places. We have contacted DCF," said Lt. Joe Eakins, Palm Bay Police Department.
Representatives from the Drug Enforcement Agency said they are finding larger and larger underground organizations growing marijuana, scattering their operations, and setting up sophisticated cookie-cutter greenhouses in unsuspecting neighborhoods.
Agents said drug dealers are finding it easier and cheaper than smuggling dope in from a foreign country.
The statewide operation came after a nine-month investigation stemming from a confidential informant.
Last week, DEA agents held a meeting in Altamonte Springs on grow houses in Florida. Florida now has the second highest number of indoor marijuana grow houses behind California.
In 2006, grow houses were found in 41 of Florida's 67 counties. That's more than 60 percent of the state. Agents talked abut putting together a task force that would track grow houses statewide.
