Mildew?

I use two 5 gal. pots to grow. Those two pots w/ FF soil in them were sitting for about 4 months. Actually one pot was sitting for about 6 months because the plant that in that one had been male and pulled. The other produced a nice Skunk female. After it finished, I mixed in some more perlite, more dolomite lime , and some bone meal but decided on trying to reuse the FF ocean forest again and let the pots sit for awhile. But when I watered for the first time for another grow, before I put seedlings in, the soil put out this strong, sweetish, acrid mildew smell. I was thinking I should douse the pots with some hydrogen peroxide, or should I just scrap this soil and mix up some more fresh FF, dolomite, bone meal, and perlite?

Hmmm.... I would say that if there was rot in the soil, you should not only be able to smell it but also see it. When they were sitting were they moist the whole time or fully dried? I cant imagine soil-rot growing in a completely dry pot.

Mostly dry. Although when I mixed in the "new" ingredients I did find the pot that had been used for the female plant had mud at the bottom (hadn't been drying out completely). The other pot was dried completely and that is the pot I have watered and smells. It was sort of 20/20 hindsight to find that mud at the bottom and to realize there had been dampening, but the plant struggled through and she produced fine smoke. The one I have put water in and smells now had dried out completely though and has been sitting the longest too....strange. It might just be best to clean out the pots completely and use alcohol on them, then mix up a whole new batch of soil. I'd rather not, considering the it'd be a a lot cheaper to be able to reuse the soil, but that might be what I have to do. Yet, I don't see the rot. It's pretty strange.

What I came up with; I'm putting the pots into my chest freezer for a few days. Hopefully that'll cure the problem.

I Googled mold and read freezing temps won't kill it. I'm considering a hydrogen peroxide solution and even read about using a bleach solution. What I may just do is dump the mix, wash the pots with alcohol, and just mix up a totally new batch of soil instead of screwing around with stuff that MAY work.

Bro - yea, fuck freezing the soil... I mean come on, if there is 1 thing that is the CMEMORYEST in this whole growing experience, it's the fucking dirt.

Remix the soil... save money when it comes to re-using panda paper, nutes, hydroton, etc... the pricey stuff.... fuck trying to save on the dirt.
