Mildew/mold with coco?

My plant is on day 5 of flower and I just noticed that there's some kind of mildew/mold forming around the corners of the coco at the top. This is my first time growing in coco and first time ever having mold, so I'm not sure what to do.

I'm using 100% coco and I'm watering with around 6ml Coco A+B every day, except I usually miss Saturdays and Sundays :fsu: . The days I miss never show any kind of lack of food/water so I'm sure it's not hurting her, not helping either but it's something I can't really avoid.

I was just wondering if this is something that normally happens from it being so wet all the time (watering once a day)?

whitish residue on coco!?!

whitish residue on coco!?!

I've never had mildew visible in my medical garden. Not with coco or other mediums...-this has to do with climate and not medium (unless infested to the max)

This white you see can be beneficial bacteria (BB) like trichoderma wich is a natural compound in unsteamed coco coir. (Other brands re-inoculate with trichoderma spores because of it's root boosting/protecting properties)

It may also be salt residue if you have let the coco dry between feedings without flushing it. (Of course the upper corner coir flakes may always dry out a little as plants are small.

Hope this helped you out.

PS! (There should be other threads explaining the same)

Dont water so much! If your waterin a moist medium everyday its bound to end up with problems. I say use a more airy mix by addin perlite so that your mix drys out everyday or so. Especially when there young. If you do not let your medium dry a little bit everytime your gonna build week root sytems.

This is not necessarily the truth, as sme plants may easily adapt to multple feedings when small, as the coir hold about 20% air within its natural fibrous structure. The cellulose in coco pith consist of that many oxygen molecules so it should be literally impossible to overwater if the pot ain't standing in stagnant/dead water.

It's also possible to use the coir as a hydromedium and force the plant to grow hydro-roots that are fatter, long tap-roots with less branching. (these does just as good a job as regular hairy feeder roots)

Our coco-mod also explain this in his threads and it seem to be a very efficient way to use the coco... :rasta:

Thanks for all the help.

I'm not exactly sure what it is but I'm going to wait a couple days and see how it progresses, then go from there. My temps range from 75-83.

charligreen, mine actually looks like the every day mold you see on fruits and stuff, just really white. There's very little of it in each corner of the container with a couple random dots of it sitting next to the weby looking stuff. You have to look close to even see it. There's nothing on the plant though.

Rootstyle, are you sure? Everything I've read says to water daily with coco for best results. I watered last on Friday with about 20% runoff, missed Saturday because I wasn't home any, watered today and the coco looked really dry, and there was about 0.5% runoff with the same exact amount of water/nutrients. I'd rather water every other day when it dries, but everything I've read says to water daily. Will have to think about it.

I didnt realize your using the really coirs coco. Im using the canna coco that comes in a 20 or so L bag and that stuff would be tragic to water everyday until you have established roots. When we tried the really coir stuff we watered daily with good results never saw any mold only salt build up occasionally.
