Michigan voters decide on Cannabis legalization this November

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan voters will decide whether to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.


Michigan has allowed medical-marijuana use for nearly a decade. If the ballot measure is successful, Michigan would become the 10th state to legalize recreational marijuana.


The proposal would allow people age 21 or older to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana outside their home and grow up to 12 plants at home. A 10 percent excise tax on marijuana would be assessed at the retail level.

Voters this evening passed Proposal 18-1 into law, making Michigan the 10th state to legalize marijuana. The initiative allows for the possession of up to 2.5 ounces, or up to 10 ounces at a private residence, for those 21 and older. The measure also legalizes the personal cultivation of up to 12 marijuana plants. The initiative establishes a licensed and regulated system of marijuana retail outlets, which will be supplied by licensed cultivation centers. Marijuana will receive a 10% excise tax in addition to the standard 6% sales tax.
Michigan now joins nine other states that have legalized marijuana for all uses: Washington, Colorado, California, Oregon, Alaska, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada and Vermont. The latter is the only state that does not authorize marijuana stores.

Time for the man to start busting down doors to collect their "tax" from growers who have been profiting for the last 10 years.

Hope everybody is happy with being told how much pot you can have in the privacy of your own home.

If they said you can only have 10 cases of beer, 12 hop plants, and 1 bottle of liquor, would most feel ok with that? I sincerely doubt it lol

12 plants and 10 ounces is a definite win for consumers.

the fact that people are happy being told how much they are allowed to have is quite interesting to me

either way medical will stick around for a bit, hopefully change into something else soon.

the microbuisness aspect does seem promising but who knows, we got 2 years before they start rollin out.

In Oregon, they are slowly folding Medical into the Recreational program.
