Michael Moore: hero or villain?

Ken Loach, film-maker...

The films Michael Moore makes are important and valuable. Public consciousness in the States is so driven by the right-wing media that it is very hard to penetrate it. He has done that very successfully. Moore understands how to communicate to North Americans in a way Europeans like myself do not. I would defend his position, his way of working and his way of presenting ideas, but we should understand that they are made for an American audience.

People may charge him with cutting corners but the central theses of his films obviously stand up. If his critics want to expose hypocrisy, why not attack Fox, CNN and the rest of the right-wing media? Moore is the only populist communicator against the war.

Nick Ferrari, radio presenter...

His films should come with a government health warning. They are strewn with falsehoods and have as much relevance to global affairs as a Carry On film. Moore is successful because the bigger the lie, the more you tell it, the more people will believe it. If you cook up a conspiracy involving Bush, the Taliban, the Saudis and Osama Bin Laden, many people will believe it because they can't accept the truth.

Michael moore: Film-maker.

I don't really gauge him as you would batman or the green goblin.

I dont think he's the most objective reporter ever, but who is. At least he throws a different perspective into the mixing pot.

Michael Moore is a TRUE man of the people. There are no outright egregious lies in his films.

The right wing media/noise machine has put on a massive effort to marginalize him after Fahrenheit 9/11. It has been so effective that most people now have the same response as "Perfect Haze's" post. They have yelled so loud and vigorously about him and his films that even level headed people finds themselves thinking, "He's alright"' "Too opinionated", etc.

Watch or re-watch Fahrenheit 9/11 now and tell me he is too opinionated or doesn't know what he is talking about. Remember, he was one of the first to loudly and publicly tell us what was going on. I consider him a hero and true patriot.

BTW, Fahrenheit 9/11 1/2 is currently in production.

He's such an admirable hero with messages in the interest (to say the least) of all people. He's brave for having to endure a lot of hate from people that want to keep up false ideas about the world in the interest of a small elite of veeery rich people (though most don't know that and truely believe what they're saying).

Since when are governments honest anyway? It's all about manipulation of the masses throughout history over and over again..

Anyone who dares to stand up against war and greed for the benefit of peace and harmony (in the example of michael moore through making people conscious of bad stuff) is a hero in my eyes.

Overall, I think that Michael Moore is a respectable filmmaker.

He has a way of being overbearing in his delivery, but I understand that he has to make the topic compelling in order to hold people's attention for the entire length of his argument. So I'm willing to look past that...

I respect Moore the most for going on air to defend Sicko against claims of falsities by CNN and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. I loved how he didn't apologize for telling the truth, and had the documentation to back it all up.

Persona aside, Michael Moore does a great job digging up the shit the leaders of our society are trying desperately to bury...

Moore is nothing more than a liberal pressure valve imo.
The fact he is one of the chief cheerleaders behind the lie that "its all about oil" and that he made a film expose about 9/11 without mentioning the role of Israel and the Mossad should indicate this guys agenda is not all it may seem.

Moore is indeed an overbearing asshole. He deserves a bit of respect for trying to present the opposite view, but his work is filled with the same falsehoods and over-exaggerations that the other side uses. There is enough truth out there that he doesn't have to tell lies. If he loves the Cuban medical system so much, why did he rush to come back to America? Possibly because they wouldn't put up with anyone who criticized their system and only allow him there as long as he criticized our system.

Michael Moore is a joke if you think he's a hero you obviously do not know a lot about him. There are people out there doing so much more than he is. He's just trying to earn a buck.

if you think his films are all truths....haha on you. He obviously uses alot of editing in his films. i wonder why? every side has its own agenda.

from what i saw of him on the telly tonight talkng on newsnight he seems to have a really rosy view of our health service....
I like his films and think he obviously feels strongly about things and goes after them pretty incessantly.... Having said that he does have one of those faces and voices that just make you want to belt him in the gob.

^I think you made a really good and balanced point here. Too often people make very black and white judgements on political type threads, which lead to them becoming messy ego driven flame wars.

Moore is just there to lead people around in circles chasing G. W. Bush instead of the criminals that employ him. He never brings any new info to the table...If he was such a great investigator, he wouldn't be trying to get people pissed at Bush, he'd be showing them the way to the Israeli/Zionist involvement in 911.

He may have been a good documentary director/creator, but I think success has gone to his fat head. He is an opportunist - which is not necessarily bad - earning a buck.
