Mh or hps at begining of flower

Hi,got a quick question. My plants are in dark at moment and I will be starting 12/12 tonight. I've been veging with a 400w mh. Should I just leave that hanging in there over plants for first couple of weeks or should I hang my 600w hps over them from the start of 12/12? Or will that just be a waste of power ?

No opinions then? I will just stick the 600w in then. Plants are only 10inches tall so no worries about running out of room

Do you do it to control stretch? Because I don't think I gotta worry about that. My plants are all lst and topped, only 10-12 inches tall but over a ft and half wide. I wanted to know the reason some people begin flower with mh.

you've answered your own question, already.
if you don't have height problems there is no need for an mh during first weeks of flower.
all works. you could even use the mh bulb for the whole flower period until harvest.
just try out the different options and find out which suits your style/needs best.

I was thinking maybe for the last week switching back to mh because I read somewhere that it helps tighten the buds. Is this true?

I don't do it to control stretch,I do it because of the explosive growth that happens after you go to 12/12.

I actually use CMH and MH conversion bulbs.

As far as it helping make tight buds,I don't have experience using MH during late flower.

I always use HPS in flowering. In fact I use HPS in veg too and find it works better than MH for my style of growing. Now I usually run multiple bulbs during flowering so I'll do 1 bulb mh to 3-5 HPS bulbs to help give the plant a better spectrum. I can't say it gives tighter buds per say but I do notice better quality.
