mh for autoflower?

I noticed most people use hps bulbs for autoflower, but if af's can flower in the july sun, shouldnt a mh bulb be acceptable? Please let me know ive never tried a mh bulb on af and am considering it. Thanks!

from what I have seen myself your plants wont grow as big and bushy under a mh, but they will be more frosty, if you can mix both spectrums your onto a winner

I know DJ has said, if he had to choose one... MH

I am partial to MH, as the color of the HPS is just obnoxious between the two


there is nothing wrong with flowering with a MH.. turn it on and give it a whirl

Thanks for the feedback guys, i may go with the mh as planned and introduce some 2700k cfls to mix the spectrums

Granted its not a AF but non the less.

Its also been discussed that why use a MH bulb since they go into flower so quick. I think this was true with some of the earlier AF strains but now as most AF's get away from the 60 day finish and have longer flower times a MH maybe better for them at first.

If you can help it, get a ceramic metal halide. Best of both worlds. If you're lucky and have a magnetic ballast that supports both MH and HPS, then the CMH bulbs would work fine on it. They also cost almost the same as an MH bulb (which usually are more expensive than HPS). Only drawback is that they come at a max of 400 watts.
They have a fuller spectrum; more reds than HPS, more blues than MH, and some ultraviolet which promotes resin production.
I'm talking about the Philips RetroHPS ColorMaster CMH bulbs btw.
