I was told by a local grower thats been growing for almost 20years, that using a MH bulb for the first week to 2 week it will cut the strech by a 1/3. Seems logical but a 1/3?Anyone tryed this before?

may work, but i really doubt it.....

use MH with HPS for THE LAST two weeks and see what happens......

if you want better quality weed, flower with MH.....

if you want weight, flower with HPS......

I would propose that the majority of that decrease in "stretch" would be a factor of spectrum shock and its associated stunting. Plants produce an appropriate chlorophyll population to maximize energy input from the available light source. Change the spectrum and the plant will skip a beat, as it adjusts to the new energy stream.

^^ i've never seen my plants 'miss a beat' from changing lamps. doesnt seem to bother them at all.

i do it, although for most of my strains you need to keep it in for the first 3 weeks.
it really does reduce the stretch and avoids those silly internodal distances you can get with HPS. i havent noticed a reduction in yield - in fact with a 250 that has limited penetration it should increase yields as there is more budsites and less bare stem in the sweet spot.

Has anyone done any side by side full flower cycles between hps and mh? Odds are the answer is YES and odds are it depends on the same things as many comparisons do like genetics, nutes, lighting, environment in general etc.

I like the color of the mh versus the hps personally (as far as ON MY EYES) and if you can actually get better quality bud that would be worth looking into. Yes I love yield but since I grow for personally, I only need so much and if I can get better quality then that is where I want to be.

"it will probably also reduce your yield by about 15%, since MH has 30% less total lumens than HPS (an you only intend to use MH for part of the bloom cycle)"

I'm quoting Lucas (formula) because his opinion match my experience exactly!

i have little doubt that using MH for the complete flower cycle would reduce yields, but that wasnt the question.
in the first two or three weeks you arent building bud mass, you are building budsites - and you want as many of them as possible with the gaps between them (internodals) as small as possible. a MH will help you to do this.

other things will also influence the amount of stretch - genetics and DIFF (temp difference between day and night cycle) are two other factors.

Tried for my last two grows, plants stretched alot less. Heard that MH does increase trich production. Thinking of MH for first two weeks, HPS for next 4-5 weeks, then finish with Mh and see what happens.

in my 12,000w flower room i have 4 1000w mh's in the middle row and the rest hps in the outer rows. overall i like this setup best over just hps.

This is my plan as well. For the last 2 weeks, though, I'll be using my 10,000k metal halide to pump the frost meter up a bit.

i've just gone back to running both.... ever 1k HPS,.... gets a sister MH 1k....
makes for a nice even spectrum....
and when i'm felling fancy..... I switch there locations each week to rearrange spectrum for all the ladies.... wkly..... for me she works
like a champ..... and much easier on the eyes in the grow room....
