metal conduit essential for electrical?

hi all

i have a room and it requires 30amp circuit. since the main panel is only 10ft to the room, i elected to simply run 10/3 romex right from the new breaker i installed in the main panel to my timer box, and then have outlets come from that. i ran the romex through the wall behind the breaker and then up out of a closet and across a room along the walls high up near the ceiling, through another wall, and into the grow room and timer. the clamps i used to fasten the romex to the wall were made for metal conduit, im pretty sure. i didn't tighten them up really tight, just enough to keep the romex in place.

i realize that this isn't kosher because if someone does something dumb and nicks the wire with a knife or something while the circuit is energized they are probably going to die. but nobody is in there except me, and the romex is up high out of the way. but the room that the romex runs through along the walls and ceiling before it goes through the wall out out is being turned into a 4kw room. should i be concerned about the humidity , heat , of the new room etc. etc. affecting the romex? ie. should i dismantle and run metal conduit? or is romex made to withstand these things.

Lol I have been hit by 120/240 30A more times than I care to think about and not dead yet. Came close on a good 277V hit. I'm electrician (20+yrs) and no that's not the best way to do it. If it is up and out of the way where it is not getting walked on or people driving on it, you prolly be fine. I'd be embarrassed to tell my set up. I do have a nice smoke/heat set up that will shut it all down. Switching to 10/3 romex would be quite the upgrade for me.

romex is made to install without metal or pvc conduit

oh ok, i didnt realize romex was ok without conduit. if i was going to be at this location long-term , id definately run conduit.

well if we are in the confessing mood i might as well say that, before getting clamps to get it up high on the wall, had it all loosey goosey on the floor with a 30 gallon reservoir right next to it and in a messy room with tools and crap everywhere. so stupid! soooo soooo stupid! whats worse, realizing how stupid something you are doing is and you keep doing it, or just being too dumb to realize it in the first place?? for me, the former!!!

id be interested to see / read about your smoke and heat setup bro. im very worried about such things ever since i had an a/c crap out on me in a small 2400w room and i opened the door to the apartment and it felt like walking into a forest fire. fuck it was like 48 degrees C in there, lucky got there in time to shut everything down !!!

Actually, you can't/shouldn't run Romex inside conduit, you need to use individual wires. It's a heat build-up thing.
