Mermaids: The Body Found is a docufiction television film, using actors to play fictitious characters, that originally aired on May 27, 2012, on Animal Planet and June 17 on Discovery Channel. It tells the story of a scientific team's investigative efforts to uncover the source behind mysterious underwater recordings and an unidentified marine body. The show fictitiously uses the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis to be used as "evidence" that mermaids exist.

It's a good quality documentary. At first I thought it was real, but then I saw the ending credits and was a bit disappointed. But it would be great if they really existed.

Of course it is, but I think it's well-made. I didn't find the fake science as much interesting as the idea about what could have happened, if human evolution had taken a different turn.

Unfortunately, well made bullshit is more likely to convince the gullible and dimmer bulbs among us. Then we have to deal with the bullshit getting spread as truth. It's amazing how many people never challenge information they are approached with. It's not just amazing...it's a real problem. Critical thinking skills should be a required course in all high school programs, maybe should even do it earlier in elementary school classes.
