Hey all,
I'm currently having some trouble with my Merlin RO machine when using the Tall Blue Pre-filter.
I've got very heavy sediment well water so I figured I'd spare my merlin from the abuse and use a pre-filter in front of it. I'm also using a booster pump to get my pressure to 60psi. It is installed between the pre-filter and merlin. So its well > pre-filter > booster > merlin > reservoir
When running the Merlin and Booster pump I have no problems. Pump sounds good and PSI is steady at 60psi. Good output.
When I run the Tall Blue pre-filter..then to the Booster.. then into the Merlin I get a lot of water hammering in the lines. The pump sounds horrible and the PSI needle hops all over the place.. it will sometimes achieve 60psi, but then when I return it'll be down at 20psi as the pump will have throttled off... likely due to poor flow or overheating. If I watch the line I'll sometimes see what look like air bubbles traveling into the booster pump.
Is my pre-filter restricting flow causing problems while entering the booster pump? Is it possible that air is sucking into the pre-filter and causing problems?
I've tried switching it around so that booster pump is also in front.. pushing into the pre-filter and then the merlin. It seems to fix the water hammering issue and the pump sounds/runs better, but I only acheive like 35psi and outflow is poor. This is after the booster in which I should have around 60psi or so.
I've read that booster pumps are to be installed after any pre-filters.. before any membranes. This is how I set it up in my 1st senario, but it doesnt work. Lots of line hammering.. pump sounds bad and ultimately turns off..
What gives? Is my tall blue defective or something. Merlin is old, but pre-filter as well as all membranes (merlin) and sediment filters (both in merlin and tall blue) are brand new.
