Memorial Day

What Memorial day means to me. My dad was in Africa and then In Korea. I got black and white photo's of some narly svit. He was a "Staff Sergent" . If you could get two words about this out of him you where a very luvky person. He was one old rusty nail. Today I remember him (RIP)...and the scrafices he made. I remember the barbegues we use to have on this day when I was younger. Back when people treated each other better. The whole block would come together with beer and BBQ, all the old dudes would talk. And sometimes give us kids a sip of beer. I have his "Army air core" jacket. And medals and wierd looking money from some strange places. And memories of my dad. He was from Texas but we lived in so cali USA...I still live here today.Texas BBQ nothing better. Have a great Memorial Day...!

My Dad was a merchant Marine but did ammo runs in the South Pacific, Korea and Nam. I once asked him why he persisted in ammo transport and he just mumbled "double pay" but I think he just wanted to be patriotic. He had some close calls but he made it. RIP Dad.

Hi Peacemonger,
I wish your dad was still alive so he could be properly thanked for his service.
My stepdad was a ships carpenter in the merchant marine & made trips to Korea during that conflict.
All those old WW2 vets are dying at about 1000 a day, I say thanks whenever & wherever I can. I didn't understand when I was younger, try to make up for it now.
Cheers,
bruce
