Is anyone else out there into these diabolical oddities of avant-garde? The Residents were one of the first bands I associated with cannabis and other mind-bending chemicals. I didn't find out until later that you don't need them to get into the Residents--but you may need them to survive the Residents. A lot of their albums can be heard for free (one listen) over at LaLa.com. For the uninitiated, I recommend the albums Duck Stab, Commercial Album, Intermission, and Eskimo (for which they received a Grammy nomination--the image above is the album cover.) Good luck. They aren't for everyone, but for those who love weird and wonderful music, there are many pleasures waiting to annoy the senses.
(Fans of Les Claypool should at least give them a try--they made him the musical weirdo he is today. He mentions them in a couple of his songs, and his band Primus has covered their tunes Hello Skinny, Constantinople, and Sinister Exaggerator.)
