found this unit online for $12,000 anyone have any experience with gas chromatography? this is what "know your grow" uses or something similar id say. Really thinking about getting one...

Do it! I'd pay you to test my stuff. I would go to know your grow but it's to far away.

Have you worked with Laboratory instrumentation before?

Do you have to be accredited as a Laboratory in your local municipality to distribute analytical results?

I would definitely look at the software which comes with that thing.

I would also look at the price of the consumables which the machine will use for a certain period of time.

This analyzer probably has incubators and other parts which require multipart daily maintenance and monitoring.

If you already have a laboratory setting and don't care about this machine running 24/7 and doing the maintenance everyday, and QC, and Calibration then by all means, get it.

If you are looking for something to use every couple of weeks and don't want to fool with maintenance everyday, send it out to get tested (Unless that is not possible due to your location and legality).

I just noticed this is an older used instrument as well. Finding parts for this beast may prove to be frustrating as well.

I was a medical lab tech and also work with communication interfaces between computer systems and analyzers like this one.
