In New Yawk:
ALBANY — A medical marijuana company in New York is looking to start the holiday shopping season off on a high note with a Cyber Monday deal on weed.
Vireo Health, one of a handful of companies licensed by the state to grow and distribute medical marijuana, will give certified patients $25 discounts for online orders of $100 or more placed between midnight and 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, the company announced Monday.
"Vireo's Cyber Monday sale will help make our products even more affordable for patients during the holiday season," said Ari Hoffnung, CEO of Vireo Health of New York.
Cyber Monday is the name given to the first Monday after Thanksgiving when many retailers offer deals on online purchases.
"We also hope that by adopting familiar e-commerce promotional strategies, like those employed by Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy, we'll be able to combat the lingering stigma associated with marijuana and its medicinal use," Hoffnung added.
Since it started in January of 2016, New York's medical marijuana program has struggled to attract both patients and doctors. As of Nov. 14, the program had only 36,053 certified patients and 1,332 medical practitioners who had registered with the state to prescribe the drug.
Vireo's Cyber Monday sale is limited to the first 1,000 patients that place online orders.
Patients can either pick up their purchases at one of Vireo’s four dispensaries — including locations in Elmhurst, Queens, and White Plains — or they can opt for the company’s home delivery service that covers New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Rockland Counties.
