Is there a point were the thc molecules can no llonger dissolve in to the butter?

For example can I put an ounce into 1lb of butter, whats to to stop me from putting a pound of weed in 1 lb butter.

Yes, there is a limit. You would eventually reach a point of saturation, as with anything else, where the fat (butter in this case) will not be able to dissolve any more of the cannabinols. Because of saturation there comes a point at which more herb doesn't increase the potency. There are also issues of volume such as trying to get all of one pound (as in your example) of finely ground herb in contact with the butter so as to dissolve the THC. If your intention is to get as potent an extract as possible you could mix a large amount of weed into the butter then strain out the herb and extract it again in fresh fat until it no longer contains the good stuff. The limiting factor could be how much herb you could get into the butter without making it difficult to work with (burn, strain, etc.) and, assuming this quantity is large enough, you would end up with a fully saturated solution. I hope that made sense as I was trying to type it out as it came to me and I might be a little impaired at the moment...


Edit: to actually address the question in your heading: I don't know how much it would take to fully saturate butter and it would be difficult for anyone to give a number because it varies according to the fat and weed used as well as the method of extraction. Experiment and let us know!

yeah, youd have to figure out how much it can hold in solution at what temperature.. im sure its different for every lipid too like canola oil vs butter etc. are you worried about an inefficiency in the process?

why not use hash and simply leave the finely ground hash in the finished butter? thats what i did last time i made a killer batch of butter. half ounce of bubblehash into a 3 sticks of butter. every tablespoon of it was equivalent to eating half a gram of bubble. how much more potency could you ever need.
