How big of a space are we talking? How many plants are you growing?

Seeing how you're asking I would assume you are talking small time? I believe a 1000w should cover a 5x5 area. Which if it were I, I would put 5 plants in the space.

My friend has been in the lower part of northern cali for a decade and uses 12-18 600 watters along with all the amps and watts from pumps, fans, coolers, humidifiers and de-humidifiers all year long. No issues to date with being flagged, just ENORMOUS electric bills. It's stealing in most cases that gets illegal grow ops busted, that and word of mouth and FLIR.

That all may change with new laws. One law proposed in government would make it mandatory for all power companies to identify all residences and businesses that exceed each states normal monthly electrical usage averages to the federal government. It's meant to study environmental effects but we all know what that's about. This proposal came after a study that concluded almost 3% of all electricity usage in the US is for indoor marijuana grows. How they came about that info I do not know. But the study showed Cali had the nations highest electrical usage rate for indoor grows at 8% so this proposal will definitely try to go after Cali first.

Back to your question. Like one person stated here, as long as you pay your bill most companies won't flag you. BUT. There are already third party audits of power suppliers on a regular basis that flags high usage. And then they do a little more investigating and if that info pans out for them that third party(DEA) acts on it.

It's always a risk if you are not legal friend. At MOST stick to under half of the allowable amps your breakers can handle, whatever wattage that may be. If it's a custom electrical job in a place that has no electrical usage history that's a BIG red flag.

We may be hearing a lot of positive news about legalization and other things related to marijuana, but honestly it's getting worse and law enforcement is stepping up their fight against grow ops. And being Cali is the trendsetter for just about everything, the biggest battle is there.

Good Luck
