One day a few years ago I was making a seed order & I saw a 15$ ten pack of 'Original Maui Wowie Skunk' from High Quality Seeds...I figured, why not? ...I remember splitting the ten pack with my pal, who got some vegging but never flowered them...and I also gave 2 or 3 seeds to an old pal of mine (GFJah), he has busted them out & gotten similar results (as far as floral color)...
Gregor Smith (ruff & tuff guy+ladies man all in 1
) did a review of the ones he busted on the old strain guide & he commented on them herming & stretching like crazy, but having an awesome smell/flavor....I've also seen 1 grow of HQS MW'Skunk' on icmag which looked decent...
I germed up the remaining 2 beans that I had just for fun this year, and whaddya know....1 male & 1 female, the fem is purple budded from the start...around day 18 or so I noticed the clumps were fully purple...she smells like a halloween salt water taffy (peanuty buttery/caramel) around day 30 or so...as time went on it became more floral, but nowhere near as tropical as what you think of when you hear "maui..." ...I hadn't read in any grow reports about the nuggies coming out purple, and people usually make that comment...my female vegges quickly but in a well branched indica-dom pattern and it doesn't stretch much @ all compared to Gregors report or my sativa-dom male...
I noticed HQ seeds also offers a purple budded strain, so I was thinking there might be a mix up...GFJah's female turned wicked pruple as well....maybe the "skunk" in a bunch of their offerings is some mega purple skunk though...
This "Durban Poison" is a local clone that I've had in my clutches for about a year now...it branches heavily, which makes it hard to maintain a dominant central leader because she always wants to trail sideways...I usually let them flower a few days over 65, but no sooner...it's a wierd clone to be passed around as "DP", I say this because it clearly is a drug cultivar that has no african roots @ all....in fact it has some type of dutch Haze or Skunk in it that makes the smell eerily reminiscent of my SSH cut...The smell that this plant exudes when puffed can be compared to a good SSH or Sage, it is INCREDIBLY stank in the air...it's also very potent i think, gets into your head even more than SSH...very enjoyable smoke...
*This plant is one of 3 that were flowered in 1.5 gallon pots....they ate themselves out of house & home and were begging to be chopped then the time came...I'll probably get about 3 zips from the, the others had a couple leads goin' on...the nugs also chunk out much more than my SSH, but still eerily similar undertones when puffed...
*Can anyone tell me if Sensi Seeds's DP or Dutch Passions DP remind you of this? I've grown TFD's 'Early Durban' and that seemed to have more african roots than this cut...
