Hi there,

I'll be in Yellowstone National Park on Christmas Day. As you know Yellowstone is home to most of the worlds geysers, and they occasionally erupt as predicted. and predictable intervals. Old Faithful is the most famous of these predictable Geysers.

The Math Problem(s):

Beehive Geyser last erupted on 11-02-07 at 345pm and has an interval between eruptions of 14 hours 7 minutes. Use the above information, what time(s) can I expect Beehive Geyser to erupt on 12-25-07.

Grand Geyser last erupted on 11-02-07 at 605PM and has interval between eruptions of 11 hours 33 minutes. Using the above information, what time(s) can I expect Grand Geyser to erupt on 12-25-07.

I think your best bet to catch Grand erupt will be on 11-03-07 around 330pm MST. For Beehive, maybe 515am MST on Sunday, and 11am Monday.

yellowstone is a cool ass place!

I've seen O'd faithful errupt about a dozen times...but it never did much for me. (def. cool, but all the gawkers in the background was the "buzz-kill"

I've seen many other geysers in yellowstone that impressed me more ...mainly because it wasnt a "crowd" watching it and wasn't predicted (felt more special bein' the only one there...ya dig?)

I love yellowstone in winter more than summer....and I have seen yellowstone both before and after the HUGE fires in '89 (I think that was the year)....to see yellowstone even today after that fire brings tears to my eyes.

aside from wildlife...the thermal pools in yellowstone impress me more than anything:

have fun there if you go...old faithful inn is the shit if you go look inside.....(you'll only get to see about 2 of 4 levels tho)

I've been there a few times. I think that's prismatic spring. Maybe morning glory pool. I think primatic is constantly overflowing and spills into the Firehole River. It's a place everyone should see at least once. If you are interested in visiting for xmas or new years. they start taking reservations for 2008-2009 winter 12-18-07. I paid 92.22 a night for a cabin. the Lodge rooms are nearly 200.00 a night.

So back to the math. I did it the long way.

Your next chance to see Grand erupt via webcam is 1711 Saturday. That's like 511PM mountain time. And 1517 or 317pm Sunday Mountain time. Get there an hour early for sure sighting.

Beehive Sighting: 1106am mountain time Sunday time change taken into account and 320pm pm 11-05-07. Once again get there an hour early for sure sighting.

As for my Christmas Vacation: I have 4 chance to see Grand to erupt between 12-23 and 12-26. 352pm on 23rd 258pm 24th 204pm on 25th and 110pm on 26th. My snow cat leave on 26th at 2pm to Mammoth. Beehive: 3 times in same date range. 341pm on 22nd 1003am on 24th and 217pm 25th. My snow cat arrives at Old Faithful and 2pm, so I may catch it on the day I arrive.

Sorry for the bragging. I would like to pack you guys all up in the duffel bag and bring you along. Seriously, but someone's going to have to sleep on the floor.

I know peeps who have been thru this, and I've been there, but they let it slide for me on possession cuz cops knew my dad ....(told them my dads name ...and they quit looking ....in a state park).......and they knew 100% that we had weed.......don't count yourself so lucky tho....just be careful.

that's crazy mane. i have a couple buddies at jackson hole and they're always holding heat. have you ever been there? friggin' amazing.

that looks like some mad place to visit, perfect for lighting up a fat one and admiring the scenery but i can't believe some states still have those rediculous laws for weed, such a shame.
i'm not very good at maths so i won't attempt the equation.

Thanks for the reply. I think I have it covered. It took about 30 minutes. The sad part is those intervals are averages so even the numbers I came up with could be off. I'll find out later if I'm awake. Sometimes the eruptions are very cool watching them on the computer. I can;t wait to get there. Hope this global warming thing turns out to be right, otherwise I'm looking at -45 at night an below freezing during the day. At least I have a coach tour on one of the days. The snow mobile is $240.00 a day and that was too much for me. And that would have been very cool.

I'll be coming in from the north and won;t be Wyoming that long before i hit federal land. Only going to have a joint or two maybe. I may be broke at the time. The only other amount of time I'll be there is on the way home. I am planning on a hour or two at Devil's Tower, and by then two joint should have been burnt already.

At 352 pm MST a bison came walking through. It's still there. With any luck it will charge the stands!!! 449pm bison existed stage left without incident. Maybe next time.

There was a big steam event around 1711pm, but it wasn't 160+ high in my opinion. Nor did it last 10 minutes. The steam may have been the eruption, or an indicator. It wasn't as big an eruption as it was yesterday.

Grand Geyser erupted 631pm MST.

The National Park Service has ceased posting eruption times for Old Faithful on their web cam until 12-19-07. Fortunately, I have been keeping track. The interval for Old Faithful is 94 minutes.

The last eruption was 11-6-07 at 228pm MST. The next eruption is estimated to be at 411pm MST. And the estimated eruption time for daylight hours on 11-7-07 are, 921am, 1104am, 1247pm, 230pm, 413pm. Get there 15-20 minutes early to ensure viewing without a 2 hour wait. All times MST.

Lion Geyser Eruption 11-6-07 at 331pm MST. Estimated Interval between eruptions 6 hours 24 minutes. Estimated daytime eruption times over the next few days are, 11-7-07; 1043am 507pm, 11-8-07; 1219pm, 11-9-07; 731am, 155pm. Be there 30 minutes early to ensure viewing. All times MST.

Old Faithful actually went off at 401pm 11-6-07 instead of my 411 prediction. Still within 10 minutes though.

Grand Geyser blew it's stack at 503pm 11-6-07. The interval is listed at 11 hours 33 minutes, but it seems closer to 12 hours.

Giant also blew up at 519pm 11-6-07. At first I thought it was just a steam event associated with Grand since they are next to each other, but after Grand eruption stopped, giant went into a single plume well above the tree tops and was still continuing when I came here to take note for everyone.

Giant's eruption interval is unknown from the best source I have run across. The very best estimate for current activity is 3.5-5 days between eruptions. Looks like you'll have to get luck. I've only seen it twice.

All geysers listed in the thread can be seen live online via the NPS link provided.

Has to be the most active day I've ever seen.
