Hello all,
Anybody have any experience using Maryland Hydroponics brand Digital Ballasts? I was on their site just getting ready to finally make my order for a Lumatek 600 Digital system, but then I took a look at their brand 600 digital and it is almost $100 cheaper. The only major difference I see is that the Lumatek comes with a 4 year warranty and the MDhydro brand only comes with a 1 year warranty. other than that there are a couple of features that the MDhydro brand has that the Lumatek doesn't, like a dimmin switch that can reduce the wattage by up to 30% or overdrive the bulb in the max position by 7%. There are a couple of other interesting features also. Check it out, below is the description for the MDhydro brand:
Each Maryland Hydroponics system comes with the completely redesigned premium multi-volt capable remote Maryland Hydroponics ballast. This redesign utilizes a design for super cool operation and longer life. Rugged construction innovations include double layer aluminum frame edges for rigidity.Other features include a heavy duty 3-prong grounded power cord. All Tap 90V/280V.Every Maryland Hydroponics ballast is specifically made for generators and third world countries like Northern California. Maryland Hydroponics ballast can even switch voltage on the fly. Maryland Hydroponics ballasts are also dimmable. You can reduce the wattage 30% simply by turning the knob. All Maryland Hydroponics ballasts overdrive the bulb 7% in the maximum position. Maryland Hydroponics ballasts deliver the most light per watt period !!! You cannot do any better than a Maryland Hydroponics ballast. No RF issues. All systems come 100% complete with nothing else to buy. Just plug it in!!!
The total price comes to $237 which includes a 19" cool tube reflector, a dual output timer, and a standard Eico 600 watt hps bulb.
So what do you guys think. Does more expensive = better in this situation? Or would I be just as well off saving some $ here (I am on a tight budget)? Plus I've heard some horror stories about the lumateks, and I definitely don't want to be making this purchase for my first H.ID. twice. I want to do it right the first time. Thanks in advance for your imput
