Maroon Pistils?

This is a Mandala 8 Miles High from seed. I am in the 32 degree lat. so it's hot and humid. Potted container w/ quality soil mix. Flower schedule says I have about a month left in flower. 100% outdoor.

Does anyone else have experience with their pistils turning maroon way too early?

Cheers - peeks

I wonder if it is genetics? Last summer I grew out Mandala #1 which has many Phenos. One Pheno the pistils turned purple (almost black), and was a very pretty plant. I think there are some New Zealand genetics which sometimes show up. Right now I am growing one Mandala #1 and it is more of a Sativa Pheno. It smells like apple cinnamon and has a spear top on it. Nothing else seems unusual.

Hey there shady I agree with Bombay 100%. Although I've never run 8 miles high I do have experience running many strains and its completely normal for sum strains to have different color hairs early on in development..it's just a trait that shows up from time to time in some strains. This is okay just continue to let the strain develop and check the resin as you get closer to the breeders recommended finish date.

I think its genetics. I have a few Devils from MNS outdoors and they are not even in flower yet but the pistils on the preflowers are deep purple (remember that band). It will be interesting to see when it goes full bloom.

That's crazy because my platinum banana og kush bx1 by riot is expressing maroon pistils on her preflowers

If the hairs are pink or maroon and still alive it's genetic.
If the hairs are dieing off to early it is prob bugs, maybe thrips.

Sorry, old post.

There's definitely no bug's here I asked the breeder of the Platinum Banana OG kush bx1 and he said the platinum banana cut expresses the maroon/pinkish pistils when I hit flower I will have to post a picture of her

Your Platinum Banana is expressing a genetic trait (like the breeder said). Enjoy it makes beautiful buds! :tiphat:
The picture in first post looks like dead hairs (hard to see), prob bugs.

Genetics imo.

Have had a plant grow maroon calyx's. I mean many varieties will turn purple/maroon at ripeness, or with cold weather, but this one grew that way from the start.

Have seen maroon/pink pistils on a handful of different seed lines. Never seemed to really indicate much of anything, eventually the pistil would die and change colors. It is pretty to look at though.

Now that's what I am hoping for is some maroon or deep purple calyxes on this platinum banana og kush bx1 what lone did you run and was that allele pretty recessive in the line that you ran and found them colors in the calyxes

It was Ganja Rebel Seeds, 5g Red.

Was very pretty and interesting trait. Had 3 females, all 3 showed it to some extent. They also had some interesting cherry/floral/spice smells. None of them were dense or round enough for me to really use. Some interesting traits though, if you were doing some breeding, or at least inbreed them and go through a huge population to try to find a better formed flower.

I ran a pack of the 5g Blue line also. Did not have any phenos show the red/purple calyxs, even after ripe out in the cold. They were all really green for the most part. Good resin content, and again some really interesting smells, but again the flower shapes were to odd for me. Just like the red, I think if you ran a large population you could select a unique cultivar, but popping a single pack of seeds I just didn't get lucky enough.
