Check out ESPN Outside the Lines (OTL). Mark Tynes, brother of Lawrence Tynes, kicker for the Super bowl winning NY Giants, got 324 months for a large scale mj distribution enterprise in Florida.
His four co-defs got 21 to 60 months on plea agreements.
Mark, partly because of two previous felony convictions for mj, and because he didn't take a plea, received 324 months and is not due for parole till 2026.
For what it's worth, his co-defs explained that they took deals because everyone was caught red-handed. Mark didn't take a deal because he would have had to plea to life in prison with the POSSIBILITY that his sentence would be shorter. Despite Lawrence's urging him to take the deal, Mark didn't trust the feds and went to trial and lost.
However, Lawrence and the codefs agree that 27 years is WAY WAY too long for mj distribution. Murderers and child molesters get less time than that.
I'm just amazed that the maximum penalty for mj distribution would be LIFE IN EFFING PRISON. What the hell? I mean, you should kill someone before they start offering you that sort of time.
Maybe he should have taken the deal, huh? I know it sucks to trust the prosecutor and the judge and say I accept life in prison, just have mercy and give me less, but dayam, in retrospect, maybe he shoulda taken the deal...
