-edit- updated story relating to the dog fighting is in page 2 of this topic

Three people in Benton County were arrested on multiple dog fighting and marijuana charges.

Fifteen dogs were seized and 14 pounds of packaged marijuana, along with cash and distribution materials.

On March 17th, the joint Street Crimes Unit (SCU) made up of investigators from both the Benton County Sheriff's Office and the Corvallis Police Department, along with additional Corvallis Police Officers and Benton County Sheriff's Deputies served search warrants in connection to an organized criminal marijuana distribution network at 1024 NW Fillmore #1 and 5246 SW Technology Loop, both addresses in Corvallis.

They arrested Cody Hufeld, Victoria McKenna and Charles Newquest. See charges below.

While investigating the marijuana, they found clues to the dog fighting. The next day, they served search warrant for that at 19365 South Fork Road, Alsea, Benton County.

There they found 15 dogs believed to be "pit bulls", some with injuries consistent with dogs that have been used for dog fighting.

It is unknown at this time, if any dog fighting events occurred at this location in Benton County. They also seized additional evidence consistent with training and breeding dogs to fight.

The 15 dogs have been seized and their health and injuries are being evaluated for treatment and rehabilitation. They are working with the Heartland Humane Society located in Corvallis.

This investigation is ongoing. Investigators expect additional criminal charges will be filed.

Cody A. Hufeld, 32, from Corvallis, was charged with Unlawful Deliver of Marijuana for Consideration (Class B Felony), 1 Count; Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana for Consideration (Class B Felony), 1 Count; Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana - Substantial Quantity (Class B Felony), 1 Count; Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana for Consideration - Substantial quantity (Class B Felony), 1 Count. My baby boy was saved from the pits in portland so i know the shit is happening in the backwoods here in Oregon but everytime I hear about it it wrenches my soul.
I really hope LE whoops their asses. In this case adding the marijuana charges is a good thing( wished it wasn't pot but, yeah, even bad people smoke weed) just to add time on the dog charges.
I am no PETA nut but am I alone in thinking that it is murder to fight dogs? I mean as a morality issue not a legal one. I know hearing of it makes me want to murder the humans what does that make me?
Got a lot of red hot emotion on this issue and am curious if I am the only one who gets so riled by this?

it just sucks because people use pitbulls for these stupid fights that its led to them actually being BANNED in some counties of the country.like wtf certain parts of my state you are straight up not allowed to own pitbulls because of the douche bags. i happen to own two pits, and they are the most loving dogs i have ever owned in my life.

Stockton Ca. 5yrs ago we took an RV to a funeral in SOCAL. My Amstaff, Boogie, was 6 weeks old. We stopped in a KOA, paid the dog fee and told them we had a baby dog. No problem as the guy looked at him.
That night returning from bedtime potty call the same guy was walking around the grounds and complimented on how pretty a pup and how good he was for so young. Then he asked what breed? to bring it to the point we were told to leave, over a puppy no bigger than a big hoagie roll. Well Boogie has seen a lot of prejudce since then but is a fine ambassador to his breed.
I will be awake pondering what "human" really means again tonight as my best friend is sleeping soundly on his expensive furniture, likely next to his pet kitty and watching over hiis kids.

150k bail for substantial amounts of weed & 95k bail for a felon in possession of 2 weapons? The usual moronic logic lol

Karma will get'em on fighting dogs. ;)

I have no sympathy for anyone that engages in this type of behaviour. Cruelty to any animal is a big pet piss-off for me. I hope the Judge troughs the book at them.

MY DOG HAS ALSO BEEN STEREO TYPED AS A FIGHTING DOG. We have a English Bulldog see my Avatar

In addition to the dog fighters, the media; in particular the Californian media have done wonderful jobs of villifying pitbulls. I own a boston, not a Pit but I love em and want one. Pits aren`t nearly the most aggressive or dangerous dogs statistically. But, just like guns, people fuck it all up for everyone else. Hehe they tried a pit ban here in Montana, home of a cowdog on every acre waitin to bite your ass soon as you turn around haha!

I don't understand how someone could fight their dogs, my dogs are my babies, it would be the same as giving one of your childern a knife and telling him to go fight the neighbor kid to me.

Looks like one vicious, bloodthirsty beast you have there WhiteRasta.
I've expierenced the same kind of prejudice against my pit.
People who have been fine with him, and talking about what a well behavied dog he is, and then finding out he's a pit and switching to BS about how you can never trust them, and they will turn on you without warning one day, oh my ass, think for yourselfs people and stop believing everything the media tells you.

If i said what i truly felt about these Scum Of The Earth & dog fighting Admin would delete it . It`s a real shame that MJ is involved as a few of you have said it gives us all a bad name & my heart goes out to the dogs involved .
I am not a bleeding heart but some things turn my stomach & animal cruelty is 1 of them .
I live in UK & have experienced the ignorance of people against my own dogs . Unfortunately over here we have a problem with the ignorant as well that use status dogs for attacks/fights & weapon dogs . I used to have a pit until she died from old age (15yr) & never had a problem as i never let it happen . My best dog was a Staff x English Bull that died at 16 1/2 & when i saw Whiterastas pic i see her sat there , a spitting image !

ps Zendo you are so right .

Stay safe all . BGB

Dog fighting ring uncovered in Benton County

ALSEA, Ore. (AP) -- Benton County Sheriff's deputies found 15 malnourished pit bulls with old scars or fresh wounds last week, providing a glimpse into dogfighting rings in the area.
The Corvallis Gazette Times reports deputies also found three dead dogs buried under trees in a 6-acre property in Alsea.
"They were being prepared for organized dogfighting," said Lt. Greg Ridler of the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say dogfighting is fueled by drugs and gambling, and often leaves the dogs dead, maimed or too traumatized to be safely adopted.
Police say one man was arrested in connection to dogfighting. Corvallis resident Cody Hufeld was arraigned Friday on 15 felony counts of dogfighting, and three felony counts of possessing dogfighting paraphernalia, including heavy collars used for strength training.
Hufeld also faces drug charges with two other people.
Benton County Sheriff Diana Simpson said the absence of a fighting pit at the Alsea property suggests that the dogs were being transported elsewhere for the fighting.
"We'll continue to investigate and see if others were involved, see where it leads," Simpson said Thursday.
Scott Heiser, a former Benton County district attorney who is now a senior staff attorney for the Animal Legal Defense Fund, said dog fighting is present in every state, and can make dog handlers rich from gambling or stud fees.
"Dogs they don't want anymore, they'll shoot on the spot," Heiser said.
The 15 dogs rescued are at the Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis. All the dogs are kept in separate cages to avoid sight of each other, and agitation. Shelter staff say the dogs are friendly to people, but get aggressive when they see other animals.
"Pit bull rescues are just overrun. There are so many pit bulls that need help. They can be really hard to find placements for," said shelter operations director Brittany Gardner. "We don't know what's going to happen with these guys."
