The feds still dont care. Besides the governator cant be found to take money, no matter the reason, from growers if he decides to run for Pres in 2012.

I can feel the collective I.Q. of ICMag just dropping. . .
If you read the article or the previous posts, you'd know that no one is talking about a literal billion dollar donation. And if you've ever taken a history or government class in the US, you'd know that you have to be born in America to be president, which excludes Arnie. You also have to be at least 35 years old, so it seems like lots of these new members here have about 20 years before they become eligible. . .

Hello all,

This is not the first time thid issue has been bandded back and forth before.

Playboy did an article in 79/80 on legalizaton and taxation. I am sure that High Times has done it as well.

The problem with this concept is that for a plant you can grow in your backyard its hard to regulate. In addition, would you pay for something you could grow yourself?

I think its short sighted to think that the numbers they speak of will materilize.

Also, for the personal grower....I am thinking the same situation would apply to growing and selling weed that is applied to alcohol production and distribution.

I am not sure but in my state I believe you can brew an X amount of beer for personal use and wine is also regulated.

I think the governement would find alternate means to bust the business grower such as tax evassion. Like Al Capone.

But if I could go to the store and buy an O of primium smoke that is graded and stamped and tested for say 50 bux would be kewl but I am not going to hold my breath.

Thanks for the insight and the insult. Who said anything about a direct payment? The simple fact is no governor will ever accept such a proposal since it would be political death. So far the constitution (which prevents what you speak of) hasnt been a barrier for the current president and apparently wouldnt be a barrier for any other candidate. So short-sighted. A quick strike of the pen would blow away all that stuff quickly if the president in charge has anything to say about it.

So your point is that you're not going to bother reading the article that this thread is based on, but still feel the need to throw your 2 cents in about nothing in particular. I guess that's how you get to 500 posts in a few months with no grow pics. And as to my keen understanding that you don't seem to have, there's a term for it: being literate.

YOU did, when you said that Arnie, no matter the reason, can't take money from growers. True, the title of the article is somewhat misleading, because at first glance it makes it seem like it's talking about a campaign contribution or other similar gift. But the billion dollars they are talking about will come in the form of increased tax revenues, as well as savings which come from not prosecuting and imprisoning hundreds of thousands of non-violent marijuana offenders.

Fact 1: California's prison system is so over-crowded that a panel of three federal judges has been established to figure out a solution, since Arnie keeps failing to come up with one. He tried to ship prisoners out of state, but that was ruled illegal, so he tried to buy time to push through a 7 billion dollar increase to the prison system. That didn't work either.

Fact 2: California is in a budget crisis, so Arnie has been trying to solve it by cutting many critical public services, but the budget is more than a month past due. This delay alone is causing many people, including seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families to go without needed help.

Fact 3: With 200,000-300,000 people in california alreading using marijuana legally for medical purposes, total legalization and regulation is not necessarily that far away, nor is it necessarily politically unpopular.

How is the governor going to look politically if he refuses to look at the one obvious solution to both of his to biggest problems?

I couldnt have possibly meant tax revenue, licensing fees, or anything other than a big fat billion dollar check written out to Gov. Schwarzenegger, right? Ill admit I dont know much about the Cali MMJ scene other than what I read here on IC but dang, I didnt mean it literally.

what about an exchange program?

And just think of all the energy savings as the indoor growers come out into the sunshine!
I really wonder how much energy we could save and how much emmissions would lower due to growers being able to go outside. :chin:
