What is the best/preferred ballast type for a generator grow?

I'd stick with magnetics. Many generators put out power that digitals aren't going to like.

Rives is right, diis are kinda fussy about power, mags are more more tolerating of ugly sine wave outputs.

I'll agree with rives. Mags aren't fussy. You may want to fire the lamps sequentially to hold down current demand at start up, depending.

Unless you're running a true inverter. Like a Honda or Yamaha go magnetic.
