Managing soil temperatures

Does anyone here ever measure or try to control their soil temperatures? Over the past couple years I've kind of gotten the impression that soil temperature is more important than air temperature as far as keeping a plant happy goes. Last fall I had a plant that was unhappy in it's unheated indoor grow space with soil temperatures below 65ºF, but came back to life & delivered pretty delicious & potent bud after I got to keeping the soil 70ºF or above. Of course having warm soil does warm the air around the plant as well, so I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I do know that then it comes to the activity of the type of wild microorganisms that are supposed to inhabit the soil & do a lot of the work of making nutrients available, higher temperatures really makes them move a lot quicker for the most part.

I there are a few other brief threads about soil temps here, but not really too much info. Someone did post about doing well growing in water with water temps 60º in a 72º room.

Anyone have any opinions or suggestions for further reading plz tell me.

Soil temp is important because of the capillary action of the plant. As the plant expels water and oxygen from the leaves it draws in moisture and nutrients from the soil and if the temp of the soil and/or air is too far off from each other the plant will not take in more nutrients and the plant will suffer...
but I have found that if the soil and/or air temps are at least above 75f the plant will grow just fine without any problem...
